Climate Pledge Arena, a $1.15 Billion redevelopment of the facility formerly known as KeyArena and built originally for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair, will be transformed into a world class, state-of-the-art City jewel and destination. Located at Seattle Center in the heart of Seattle’s Uptown Neighborhood, the new venue offers a truly unique and intimate experience for the newest NHL franchise, the Seattle Kraken, WNBA’s Seattle Storm, concerts and other entertainment events, while preserving the historic nature of Seattle Center and its surroundings. This project is a completely new arena beneath its existing historic-landmark roof. Climate Pledge Arena opened October 22, 2021.
Position Summary:
The Event Accounting Manager will be a key accounting contact at the Climate Pledge Arena. This role will be responsible for performing end-to-end event accounting duties. Serve as the point person for all event accounting related items including, but not limited to, event revenue, event expenses, event settlements, and flash reports.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Accounting and reporting tasks:
- Event settlements for approximately 75 publicly ticketed events (night of show), 44 Seattle Kraken NHL games, 20 Seattle Storm WNBA games, and multiple Private Events.
- Work directly with event Promoter and Tour Accountant to ensure timely submission of publicly ticketed pre-event settlement and final on-site night of show event settlement.
- Work with Event Managers and Ticket Operations to ensure timely receipt of event expenses and ticket revenue reporting.
- Prepare and distribute post-event reports comparing actuals to forecast and budget.
- Analyze event P&L for accuracy after all event related entries have been recorded.
- Order and coordinate delivery of cash requested by Promoter.
- Assist with reconciliation and recording of box office credit card receipts, ticket sales, and Ticketmaster sales.
- Assist with recording event related journal entries.
- Participate in month-end accounting close process; assist in reconciliation of event related GL accounts, and variances to budget.
- Support annual audit, ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company policies and procedures, including Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
- Prepare event related tax filings, which may include Form 1042 for Foreign Entertainer withholding. Become familiar with Seattle’s Admission/Comp tax, and Seattle & Washington Business & Occupational tax.
Budgeting and forecasting tasks:
- Participate in forecasting and budgeting for event related revenue.
- Assist to track sales and revenue leading up to the event.
- Partner with Programing department on event proformas.
Other Duties:
- Assist in preparation and maintenance of desk procedures.
- Build strong relationships with Kraken Finance team, Strom Finance team, food and beverage partner, and other important partners.
- Complete special projects as requested by leadership.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- 4 + years of related experience at a Sports & Entertainment Arena.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Accounting or Finance emphasis, preferred.
- Working knowledge of Ticketmaster, TM WIN99 (Host), and Archtics, required.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and late nights based on event schedule.
- Work efficiently and effectively in an open office environment, that can be exciting and distracting.
- Experience with an enterprise accounting system such as NetSuite, preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (Xlookups, Sum-ifs, Pivot Tables, etc.) and experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Highly motivated, with a solid work ethic and high degree of integrity; clear communicator and forward thinker, great attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment; handle multiple tasks with the ability to reprioritize and shift priorities quickly.
- Must be adaptable with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Working Conditions:
- Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
- Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
Compensation:
- In accordance with the Washington State Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the expected base pay range for this position is $75,000-$110,000 annually. Actual base pay will depend on employee’s experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
- This role is classified as exempt.
