Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and lead supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Inclusion Program Lead has direct oversight of the City’s new Inclusion Program (Inclusive Pomona). The Inclusion Program Lead provides direct oversight of four (4) Inclusion Aides. They will also develop and oversee the implementation of positive and culturally appropriate behavioral support plans and strategies that support the inclusion of youth with intellectual & developmental disabilities (I/DD) in Pomona’s programs & activities. The Inclusion Lead is responsible for ensuring the Inclusion Program meets programmatic, contractual, grant, City goals and deadlines while responding to community needs.

The Community Services Division has one position available, which is classified as at-will, hourly / part-time positions with no benefits provided. Hourly / part-time positions average 20 hours per week and less than 1,000 hours in a twelve (12) month period.

Assignment will be based on the City’s needs as well as candidate skills and work experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY

In addition, you will need any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Education & Experience

  • High school graduate or GED equivalency required.
  • Special education background highly desired.
  • 2 years of experience in the field of inclusion and/or working with individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities, preferably in after school programs or youth recreational facilities.
  • 1 year of paid or volunteer experience working directly with youth.
  • Extensive experience with behavior support, modifications, and accommodations for children with disabilities and/or challenging behaviors across settings, especially within an out-of-school environment
  • Experience providing inclusive programs to children
  • Sophisticated understanding of inclusion, and ability to translate the understanding to a variety of audiences (children, parents, staff)
  • Principles, practice, and techniques specific to inclusion activities.
  • Best practices in risk management as related to inclusion programs and recreation facilities.
  • Recreation theories and their application to individual and group behavior; ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm; to blend with various groups; and to maintain effective relationships with associates, participants, and the public.
  • Leadership principles and approaches to varied types of inclusion activities including the ability to organize groups for participation in diversified inclusion programs.
  • Experience in curriculum development and effective teaching methods in the inclusion field.
  • Experience in working with ethnic and culturally diverse communities.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.

License or Certificates

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class “C” driver’s license and have a good driving record.
  • A credential or certification in special education, child or youth development preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Oversight and implementation of inclusion programs in city programs and facilities as well as supporting activities outlined in the Inclusive Pomona Grant.
  • Curriculum development and effective teaching methods in the inclusion field.
  • Assess and properly develop and implement inclusion related trainings and activities.
  • Support Inclusion Aides and City staff in providing behavior support, modifications, and accommodations for children with disabilities and/or challenging behaviors.
  • Ability to train, educate, translate and implement key inclusion principles and practices to variety of audiences (children, parents, staff)
  • Apply recreation theories to individual and group behavior; inspire confidence and enthusiasm among various groups; and maintain effective relationships with associates, participants, and the public.
  • Organize groups for participation in diversified inclusion programs.
  • Act as a liaison between staff, community members, collaborative partners and other city personnel.
  • Ensure programmatic, contractual, grant, and City goals and deadlines are met.
  • Act as a resource to program in curriculum development, participant recruitment, retention and assessing programmatic needs.
  • Conduct and/or attend regular meetings and training sessions that directly affect the development, planning, coordination and implementation of Inclusive Pomona Project.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and foster new programs and best practices throughout City of Pomona programs and activities.
  • Meet deadlines while maintaining high quality of work.
  • Utilize best practices in risk management as related to inclusion programs and recreation facilities; ensure established emergency and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Oversee and address program specific risk management and safety concerns.
  • Accurately document all incidents/accidents and ensure proper communication to all parties as appropriate
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, City officials, parents/guardians, community members, co-workers, volunteers and guests.Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the City’s image and mission statement are upheld.

Skill to:

  • Operate modern office equipment and Microsoft software particularly Word and Excel.
  • Assess and properly develop and implement inclusion related trainings and activities
  • Operate a motor vehicle safely.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to work in a standard office environment and outdoors in city parks; ability to travel to different sites and locations.

Work Hours

Work hours will be approximately 10-20 hours per week. Some weekends and evening shifts may be required.
