Communications Specialist For Communication Arts

Job Summary:
This position will be responsible for implementing a cohesive internal and external communication strategy in the Department of Communication Arts. Internal communications will be aimed at building and sustaining a diverse and welcoming community of faculty, staff, and students while creating webpages and other means to better communicate department opportunities, resources, and procedures. External communications include: web content, video creation, photography, and promotional materials that increase course enrollment and interest in our program; writing news items, press releases, and other material to increase our profile on campus and globally; curating both print newsletters and social media accounts to build ongoing community and engagement with alumni, donors, and research partners; support for development and fundraising efforts that increase resources for the department; coordination across all these efforts to produce consistently effective and inclusive communications.
Responsibilities: Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.

  • 10% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • 25% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
  • 5% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
  • 30% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • 10% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans
  • 15% Plan, design, and update web, photo, and video content in consultation with external developers and departmental IT staff.
  • 5% Other duties as assigned

Education:
Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree
Degree or specialization in communications or marketing preferred.
Qualifications:
Preferred Experience

– Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
– Strong knowledge of media and public relations principles
– Ability to write exciting, dynamic, and error-free copy
– Success creating and maintaining web content, including WordPress websites
– Cultivating and engaging strong social media followings
– Producing and editing effective video and photo content
– Ability to foster excellent working relationships (internally and externally)
– Ability to work independently and take initiative to solve problems

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
