Library
Chandler Public Library inspires intellectual discovery, creative entertainment, and life-long learning through robust information resources that connect communities to a world of k knowledge and new ideas. As a system of four libraries in all geographic areas of the community, and collection of nearly 500,000 books, DVDs, CDs and a wide variety of digital resources, we bring people, information, and ideas together to read, learn, connect, and succeed. Our libraries continuously reflect on the current and emerging needs of patrons and choose to advance literacy and champion inclusive learning experience for all people by fostering accessibility and embracing new technology.
Parks Operations
The Park Operations Division is a team exercising stewardship over 1,500 acres containing 70 developed and undeveloped parks, 60 athletic and multi-use fields, 155 ramadas, 95 playgrounds, 26 tennis courts, 9 pickleball courts, 35 sand volleyball courts, 60 basketball courts, 2 disc golf courses, 2 racquetball courts, 1 cricket field, 63.4 miles of walking and biking trails, 4 dog parks, 26 restrooms, 1 archery range, 1 skate park, 1 BMX bike park, 2 urban fishing lakes, and many more specialty parks and trail areas. The Park Operations Division’s staff plays a critical role in the City of Chandler’s quality of life initiatives by providing safe, clean and well-maintained parks that offer exceptional recreational experiences. By providing health, wellness, educational, and recreational opportunities, child and adult development, preserving and protecting the environment and community’s assets, and contributing to the economic growth and development of the city; parks play a meaningful, significant, and contributive role in the growth and recreation of the community.
Who we are looking for
Our new team leaders will have a passion for customer service, teamwork and collaboration, and have broad-based municipal leadership experience with a knowledge of all aspects of parks and recreation operations and programming, Council/Manager form of government and complex public policy issues and laws. The chosen Assistant Director will possess a strong connection to and interests in developing initiatives that enhance the latest trends community parks and recreation programs, services and amenities with an intent focus on citizen-centric benefits and organizational and professional development.
Essential Functions:
- Manages operations within the Parks and Recreation Divisions to develop, enhance and sustain quality services by providing resources, operations and program development and oversight; resolves complex issues; develops and communicates department and individual expectations, policies, procedures and strategic direction.
- Supervises and oversees the daily operations of the assigned areas by setting goals and objectives, manages schedules and work priorities, monitors and evaluates performance, facilitates access to resources and training, provides guidance and addresses performance issues, conducts interviews and makes hiring decisions.
- Supports the development of culture that values and motivates staff and engenders the trust and confidence of the public, the Mayor and Council and City leaders.
- Develops and administers budget recommendations.
- Consults and interprets a variety of information for internal and external stakeholders.
- Establishes, evaluates and manages division programs.
- Conducts and reviews special projects.
- Recommends and implements process and policy changes.
- Advises leadership in area of assignment.
- Serves as back up to the Director.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, business, public administration, political science, urban studies, or a related field
- seven years of progressively responsible managerial experience in comprehensive programs involving urban planning, neighborhood facilities management, and parks and recreation, including five years of supervisory experience;
- a valid Arizona Driver’s License; or
- any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Desired qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred;
