Job Description
The ideal candidate for this position enjoys working with analysts, experts, and data; is passionate about countering the spread of chemical, biological, and advanced conventional weapons and components; and is a strong team player.
The Project Associate will support implementation of programming to counter the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and advanced conventional weapons, private military companies (PMCs) by closing the financial and logistical pathways by which states such as Russia and China acquire, transfer, and sell weapons, precursors, and components. Programming is focused on identifying existing, emerging, or potential weapons proliferation pathways, disseminating and promoting the use of data related to ownership, subsidiary, and front companies among key international partners to counter arms proliferation, enabling private and public sector partners to proactively screen against proliferation-linked transactions and commercial activity, and building the capacity of governmental and non-governmental organizations to investigate proliferation-linked entities and networks. Programming may also include enhancing chemical or biological/biotechnology industry know-your-customer and screening practices and promoting due-diligence best practices among scientific funding organizations. Programming activities may take the form of meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences, grant-making, research competitions, email campaigns, or other activities, both in-person and virtual.
Under the supervision of a Program Manager and Senior Project Lead, the Project Associate will provide support to project teams on the technical, financial, and administrative aspects of assigned projects to meet CRDF Global and funder objectives.
Major Responsibilities:
- Supports planning and implementation of projects by completing assigned tasks.
- Drafts correspondence and communicates with stakeholders including funders, subject matter experts, and international partners in the public and private sectors to coordinate activities.
- Drafts documents including memos, meeting notes, event readouts, project reports, and evaluation reports.
- Supports the Project Lead in creating and tracking project budgets, budget forecasting, and sub-award expenses.
- Contributes significantly to proposal development efforts including research, communication with partners and experts, and proposal writing.
- Oversees document and information management to ensure records and databases, including electronic and physical files, are current and complete.
- May represent the program or projects at external events.
- May travel within the U.S. and internationally as appropriate for project implementation.
- Supports other programs and staff as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- One to two years of prior work experience preferred
- Experience or interest preferred in a field such as counter proliferation/nonproliferation, WMD/CBRN security, chemical security, biosecurity, counter-proliferation finance (CPF), anti-money laundering (AML), arms control, open-source analysis, project management, counterterrorism, or other relevant areas of international security.
- Strong organizational skills, great attention to detail, focus on client and team needs
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with team members, external clients, and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, collaboration platforms such as Zoom or Slack, teleconferencing/webinar platforms such as Zoom Webinar or Webex, and ability to work with and maintain more advanced databases (experience with Microsoft Project and/or Salesforce is desirable).
- Knowledge of Russia is preferred but not required
- Experience with email campaign platforms such as HubSpot preferred.

Salary & Benefits: The base pay range for this position is $42,720 to $52,000. The determination of salaries in this job classification depends on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, relevant candidate experience, job-related knowledge, qualifications and skills.
