Job Summary
The New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department, two-time recipient of Texas Recreation and Park Society’s Gold Medal Award, invites you to take part in helping deliver fun, fitness, and smiles to the community of New Braunfels by joining the Das Rec, New Braunfels Recreation Center family. Das Rec is the first of its kind facility in the community. At over 77,000 square feet consisting of two full-sized basketball courts, two indoor pools, a fitness floor, an indoor track, and more – the opportunities to help build a happier, healthier, active New Braunfels are endless.

Under general supervision, manages and oversees membership and guest services operations of Das Rec, New Braunfels Recreation Center while setting an exemplary example of customer service for the Das Rec team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Develops and maintains expert knowledge of Das Rec’s point-of-sale system.
  • Goes above and beyond to ensure that excellent guest services are delivered to the community in alignment with the City’s strategic objectives and State and Federal laws. This includes providing positive and enthusiastic customer service to all members and guests through proper etiquette by greeting members, guests, and attendees, exceeding their expectations in service.
  • Establishes and maintains an environment built around safety, cleanliness, courtesy, and efficiency while developing a positive and fun work setting.
  • Works closely with Assistant Guest Services Supervisor and Membership and Marketing Supervisor to set high level of standards and expectations within the Guest Services team and holds self and staff accountable to those expectations.
  • Commits to continuous improvement and meets regularly with Guest Services Coordinator and Membership and Marketing Supervisor to discuss Guest Services successes and areas for improvement and works as a team to develop solutions to issues as they arise.
  • Oversees and takes ownership of all guest services operations in absence of full-time staff.
  • Trains, coaches up, and evaluates Guest Services Representatives and Guest Services Leads.
  • Assists members and guests with program registrations, membership purchases, and facility bookings including processing of transactions via cash, check, and credit card payment methods.
  • Assists in establishing and reaching sales goals for memberships, personal training, class registrations, etc.
  • Assists in managing a variety of administrative activities including computer records and cash management, employee scheduling and payroll reporting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND three (3) years customer service/public interaction experience required, with recreation programming or membership experience preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain within four (4) months of employment: Community First Aid and Safety/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Requirements
Required Knowledge of:

  • Operational characteristics, services and activities of recreation facilities management and program planning, promotion and coordination.
  • Principles and practices of customer service.
  • Federal and State safety laws and regulations.

Required Skill in:

  • Interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues.
  • Analyzing problems, providing alternatives, and identifying solutions in support of established goals.
  • Responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
  • Operating and maintaining a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software and communications equipment.
  • Effective, clear, and concise communication, both verbally and in writing.
  • Cash handling.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office environment; outdoors in all weather conditions, with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals; is subject to sitting, standing, bending and reaching for extended periods of time; and must be able to safely pull, push, lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to work flexible work schedule and irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays and evenings.
  • May be required to work immediately before, during or after an emergency or disaster.
