General Description
The Animal Services Program Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operational duties related to various Animal Services programs. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbally and in writing. The Program Specialist will be well-versed be well-versed in animal resource center processes and capable of guiding volunteers and community members on the best strategies intake diversion, pet reunification, pet retention, pet adoption, and pet support and may assist with other program areas. Supervision is received from higher level Animal Services personnel. Related duties are performed as required.
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.
A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. Typical Work Activities
- Assist with the development and maintenance of program materials;
- Assist community members and provide support consistent with program guidelines;
- Participate in community-focused events such as vaccination clinics, microchip clinics, check-a-chip events, ID tag distribution, pet food pantries, etc.;
- Assists with training program volunteers;
- Utilizes all appropriate platforms associated with programs (Next Door, Facebook, Craig’s List, Instagram, LinkedIn, Petco Love Lost, Home-to-Home, etc.);
- Data collection and entry related to program metrics and participation;
- Runs regular reports to monitor program tasks and impact;
- Assists clients with online and in-person services.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED, PLUS:
One (1) year of work experience (full-time or part-time equivalent) which involved customer service, social services, debt collection, or similar transferrable skills.
