Sr. Copywriter

Varo is looking for a senior copywriter to join our in-house creative team to build the Varo brand.

About you:

You’re a seasoned creative who loves to collaborate with art directors, designers, and other creatives.

You write memorable headlines. Stuff that sticks. But you can also craft compelling copy down the rest of the page. Or email. Or ad.

You’re a chameleon. You can write in a variety of tones and styles for an array of audiences.

You’re a strategic storyteller. You think about copy systematically and you’re comfortable working with a messaging hierarchy to communicate the right message to the right audience at the right time. And you’re conceptual, able to generate ideas for different types of mediums and see them through to execution.

You’re a leader. You can run projects and presentations on your own, interrogate a brief, manage stakeholders, and provide creative feedback to other team members.

What you’ll be doing

    • Understand the needs, motivations, and aspirations of your audiences, so that you can speak to people in the most compelling, and engaging way
    • Question briefs where appropriate, pushing for the most effective creative solutions
    • Actually write. Sticky headlines. Taglines. Scripts. Emails. Websites. Social posts. And anything else that comes across your desk. Note: you love the bold, imaginative lines, but also don’t mind writing the simple, straightforward stuff too.
    • Contribute and pitch fresh ideas that elevate the brand, sell the unexpected, and challenge the status quo
    • Collaborate with creative team members (designers, motion designers, art directors, and writers) as well as marketing, product, and other stakeholders to drive conversion, engagement, retention
    • Receive and act on feedback in a constructive way while meeting deadlines and business goals/objectives
    • Be hands-on and proactive in a fast-paced environment
    • Present work with conviction to help build confidence in the creative team
    • Use your sense of humor to make money feel fun

You’ll bring the following required skills and experiences

    • 6-8 years of creative copywriting experience
    • A portfolio that demonstrates strategic thinking, big ideas, and executing with a high level of craft and attention to detail
    • Experience writing and concepting across a range of digital platforms (social, web, lifecycle, OOH, video, campaigns)
    • Ability to translate brand direction into impactful creative deliverables across different channels/mediums
    • Strong problem-solving and creative chops: you are critical to the conceptual phase of each project
    • Polished presentation skills

$120,000 – $135,000 a year
