Director of Communications for the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR)

Executive Communications and Marketing

The Joint Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing seeks a Director of Communications for the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR), one of the most important and reliable producers of medical isotopes for treating cancer in the U.S. MURR saves and improves lives as the only U.S. producer of four medical isotopes used in the treatment of liver, thyroid, pancreatic and prostate cancers, and in imaging agents to diagnose cancers and heart disease.

This dynamic communications advisor is responsible for the development, implementation and measurement of an integrated communications and marketing strategy for MURR. This position reports directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing and also has reporting responsibilities to the Director of MURR.

The Director of Communications will collaborate with MURR senior management, researchers, communicators, campus collaborators and industry partners to provide a multi-channel communications strategy, creative services and delivery that effectively brings awareness to target audiences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Direct the development, implementation and measurement of an integrated communications and marketing strategy to support MURR’s strategic plan and key messaging and achieve leadership’s priorities.
  • Provide executive counsel, advice and support to the Director of MURR, as appropriate, and to other partners to ensure high-quality communications and alignment of the brand narrative for MURR.
  • Direct the MURR leadership team’s development of key messaging, talking points, speeches, scripts and presentations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal resources, including the MU News Bureau, MU Digital Publications, Mizzou Social Media and Mizzou Visual Productions to maximize coverage of MURR on the local, state and national stage.
  • Serve as a brand champion for MURR to ensure consistency in tone and message across all marketing communications and initiatives.
  • Work as a strategic partner, representing MURR communications on university committees, groups and initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationships and exhibit effective written and oral communications skills.
  • Must be available for regular and consistent onsite work.
  • Experience in science writing or a strong background in science is preferred.

Salary Range: $74,057-$116,572

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
