The Center for Trans and Queer Advocacy (CTQA) is a resource for lesbian, gay, bisexual, non-binary, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and ally members of the West Chester University community. The mission of The CTQA is to create an environment where the intersectional experiences of trans and queer people are supported, celebrated, validated and affirmed.
Reporting to the Director for the CTQA, the Associate Director works collaboratively with the CTQA staff to support the mission and function of the Center. The Associate Director provides extensive program development, outreach and resource development; peer education program and student leadership training and development; and educational training and development on campus. This position supports students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members who access the space; supervises student employees and volunteers; provides resources and outreach; and assists with administration and oversight of the Center.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual identities and experiences; experience working with people with marginalized genders and sexualities; the ability to take initiative, problem solve and work independently; and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with consistent accuracy, follow-through, and timely completion of projects.
Responsibilities include:
- Create and manage publicity and program materials
- Evaluate programs, conduct programmatic need assessments and provide strategic planning
- Develop the programming for the year
- Work with colleagues across campus and community partners on joint programmatic initiatives
- Develop a marketing strategy to increase visibility
- Oversee all aspects of the peer education program including recruitment, selection, supervision, training, project oversight and evaluation of the Peer Educators (student employees)
- Supervise the Graduate Assistant and possible intern(s)
- Develop ongoing training content for the CTQA student staff
- Offer support and possible advisement to all LGBTQIA+ and CTQA affiliated groups
- Work with student leaders on programming and program advisement
- Provide leadership development through organized meetings, workshops, and training
- Maintain outreach to students and campus community and the Center’s social media sites
- Collaborate with the Graduate Assistant on outreach initiatives
- Provide oversight of the development and updating of the office web site and other online resources
- Manage resource development for programs, training, and general use and production of office publications
- Create, promote and facilitate educational opportunities for the campus community and other constituents
- Provide critical education about trans and queer identities and experiences and how community members can work towards being stronger advocates in presentations, workshops and trainings
- Create a welcoming atmosphere for those who visit the Center
- Advise people on resources, program opportunities and ways to get connected/involved.
- Serve on Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and other WCU committees as a representative for the Center for Trans and Queer Advocacy
- Additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Three years of diversity and inclusion experience
- Experience in the creation and implementation of educational programming
- Experience developing and facilitating presentations and trainings
- Supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing services to the LGBTQIA+ community
- Experience working with multicultural and social justice education in the areas of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, religion, sexuality, and gender identity
- Experience advising and providing group facilitation
- Experience with leadership development
- Experience supervising students
- Experience using social media, web design, and online outreach
