GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Performs drywall and painting trade work in the construction, maintenance and repair of assigned county property, structures and equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Performs painting and drywall construction, maintenance and repairs on structures, facilities, equipment and other county property.
• Reads blueprint drawings, diagrams and sketches.
• Performs calculations (i.e., measuring angles and distances, calculating square footage).
• Performs preventive maintenance.
• Maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of assigned equipment, tools and vehicles, according to established department policy and sound trade practices.
• Performs various record maintenance duties as required (i.e., work orders, materials and supplies utilized, cost estimates, labor required, maintenance logs).
• Estimates material and purchases supplies.
• Reports any detected deterioration, repair needs and/or maintenance needs to supervisor.
• Performs general tasks of other trades as needed.
• Assists with the planning, estimating and coordination of tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Education, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED and related vocational certification supplemented by four (4) years of specific experience which provides the ability to perform skilled to advanced-skilled painting trade tasks, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in a supervisory or lead capacity preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be able to operate various hand-held manual, electrical, and gas-powered equipment and tools. Must be able to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Requires full range of body motion in manipulation of limbs and torso for working on scaffolding, climbing ladders and working in confined spaces. Must be able to traverse irregular or uneven terrain frequently. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work
Language Ability: Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where standardized exists; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.
Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide; determine weight; calculate decimals and percentages; compute ratio and proportion.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergencies or tight deadlines. Requires the ability to exercise consistent tact and courtesy when in frequent contact with various professionals, county staff, and the general public.
