Description
- This opportunity is a part-time (up to 30 hours a week) temporary (extra-hire) position and is not eligible for County benefits.
- Dates of Work: Monday through Saturday, June 1, 2023 – November 30, 2023. Additional days, evenings, and weekends may be assigned to assist with events and programs when applicable.
Position Summary

As a customer service professional who will work with the public, you will gain knowledge in planning, coordinating, and administering activities in all components of the Sprinker Recreation Center. You will focus on programming, working at special events, assisting with room rentals, and adapting programs to fit the needs of the community. In addition, you will learn about the day-to-day operations of the Parks Department by interacting in a positive manner to enforce park codes throughout the facility and create a safe environment for the public. You will meet new people, expand your professional network, and establish long-lasting friendships.

Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Help plan large-scale community events: coordinate logistics, create a budget, and work with vendors and sponsors.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design marketing materials and social media campaigns and assist with the distribution of promotional pieces.
- Help with facility rentals: provide facility tours, process reservation permits, create floor plans, assist with room preparation, and help customers have a memorable event.
- Demonstrate and lead recreational activities in a safe manner.
- Onsite supervision during program sessions.
- Assist with the development and delivery of assigned programs; following curriculum established to meet program objectives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds
- Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s license, the ability to obtain the license within 30 days of employment, or otherwise meet the travel requirements of the position
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of recreational activities, program planning, and scheduling
- Knowledge of principles of youth development
- Ability to drive a 15-passenger van or like vehicle

Sick Leave
Extra hires are eligible to receive sick leave in accordance with the WA State Minimum Wage Act. Extra hires are not eligible for other County benefits.
Social Security
All Pierce County employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The county and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.
Retirement and Deferred Compensation
Pro-tem Judges in District Court, Pro-tem Superior Court Commissioners, Extra Hires with Retirement, and Work Study Students with Retirement are eligible for Retirement and Deferred Compensation and Social Security.
