Director of Human Resources, North America

Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources leads the development and delivery of programs and support that will improve the operating performance of the Business Unit which consists of 6 facilities across North America. The successful candidate must be a strong, action-oriented leader who can partner with the leadership team to accelerate strategy implementation, build leadership talent to fuel future growth, and enhance organizational performance. Candidates must have strong collaboration skills, strategic thinking, tough-mindedness, a sharp eye for talent, team building skills, unquestioned integrity, and the ability to effectively handle senior level relationships and sensitive HR issues in a global environment. This position reports directly to the Vice President and Business Unit Manager of MRO North America with a matrix reporting line to the Vice President of Human Resources for the MRO Division

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement the Business Unit HR Plan, supporting the Business Units organizational strategy and annual operating plans; creating meaningful and relevant HR initiatives, that are aligned to support the BU’s success
• Serve as a senior advisor, coach, and trusted resource to the North American Business Unit Manager and leadership team
• Create a talent acquisition structure that can attract highly capable new colleagues and support the BU’s staffing requirements consistently across all markets
• Provide effective leadership, mentoring and coaching to the management and HR team; resolving HR issues, managing organizational change and improving the effectiveness in areas such as organizational structure, work processes, leadership development, succession management, performance management, training, human resource policy, talent retention strategies and compensation
• Plan and manage the delivery of all HR support to employees to include: recruitment, organizational development, training, compensation, benefits, communications, and talent management solutions
• Utilize metrics and results to understand trends and identify how to improve
• Develops strategic direction for company/region on employee engagement practices
• Ensure clear communication of approved policies and procedures to employees and management
• Monitors trends to ensure the company is taking advantage of all market changes and remains competitive.
• Lead HR due diligence and integration activities for acquisitions targeted by the Division
• Collaborate with Division and Corporate HR on AMETEK HR processes and policies to be deployed in the Division
• Lead Corporate driven initiatives and processes such as Performance Management, Corporate Bonus Plans, Sales Incentive Plans, Salary Planning, Benefits Open Enrollment, etc.
• Responsible for maintaining Employee Handbooks, legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance.
• Responsible for managing employee relations matters across the North America Division and partners with corporate legal on escalating employee relations matters.
• Oversees payroll matters in collaboration with HR Team and Corporate.
• Responsible Designated Employer Representative (DER) for the North America FAA Drug and Alcohol Program.
• Partner’s with Corporate Worker’s Compensation Manager to administer Workers’ Compensation program including working with insurance carrier to reduce employee lost work time. In conjunction with site leadership, investigates accidents and prepares reports for Corporate EH&S staff and workers’ compensation carrier.
• Manages the North America Headcount against approved budgets
• Works collaboratively with Division HR DVP on HR Roadmap activities and leads the N.A. HR Team on ensuring initiatives and deliverables are met.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree is required with emphasis in Human Resources, Business Administration or similar discipline; an advanced degree would be a plus
• PHR/SPHR or HRCI Certification is desirable

Experience:
• Minimum 10 years of practical experience in Human Resources with 5+ years leading an HR team
• Prior experience operating in a HR business partner role in an international organization
• Must have experience of leading a HR function in a multi-site and muti country environment
• Manufacturing industry experience preferred

• Must be self-directed with a proven ability to successfully work under pressure, prioritize multiple projects and manage demands in a matrixed organization, while still meeting all critical deadlines.
• Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to relationship-building and influencing at the local and business unit level, and externally with customers and vendors.
• Highly responsive with strong employee/customer focus.
• Change agent who questions the status quo and develops proactive solutions to increase optimal business and/or employee performance.
• Energetic professional, with a roll up their sleeves style and the ability to see the big picture and drive results.
• Solid business acumen; understand business and industry factors to shape how business unit strategies are developed, implemented and sustained.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, consulting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong analytical thinking and communications skills (both written and oral) with extreme attention to detail required.
• Ability to make good decisions, including exhibiting sound and accurate judgment; supporting and explaining reasoning for decisions; including appropriate employees and management members in decision-making process in a timely fashion, and identifying when issues should be escalated to senior management.
• Ability to listen, consider other points of view and when necessary, “agree to disagree”. Must be equally comfortable in the delivery of positive and negative outcomes.
• Detailed and current knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations; proactive ability to interpret and effectively implement these laws and regulations.
• Ability to work with ambiguity in a demanding, fast paced environment.
• The right person will be ambitious and flexible, eager to learn and grow professionally.
• Experience with remote teams preferred.
• Previous experience in a public company preferred.
• Must have the ability to travel to other North American business unit sites, as needed, approximately 1-2 times per quarter.

Compensation

Salary Minimum: $140,000

Salary Maximum: $180,000
