Through teamwork, you will provide innovation and management necessary to identify, evaluate, and monitor Stanford’s operational and strategic risks.
As Senior Manager, you will lead, manage, and perform the most complex and sensitive financial, operational, and compliance audits to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of strategic and risk mitigation plan(s) designed to meet Stanford’s objectives. You will provide assurance through strategic audits of operational risk management activities. And you will provide internal consultation and advisory services and provide guidance, review, and project direction to audit teams.
The position of Senior Manager of Risk Strategies and Strategics Audits reports to the Executive Director of Compliance Assurance and Risk Strategies.
Core Duties:
- Assess whether strategic and risk mitigation plans are pinpointed, remain relevant, and continue to create value for the organization.
- Implement enterprise risk management tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks, and to manage risks according to an enterprise risk management framework.
- Manage and conduct the most complex and sensitive financial, operational, and compliance audits and advisory projects in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
- Manage and conduct periodic follow-up reviews to assess and report on progress or completion of management’s action plans in response to internal audit observations and recommendations.
- Identify and resolve the more complex and sensitive audit issues.
- Provide guidance and direction to project team.
- Review and correct documentation of project team to ensure it supports conclusions and results based on appropriate analyses and evaluations.
- Provide internal control consultation and advisory services to senior management.
- Develop and maintain productive stakeholder and staff relationships; become a trusted and valued partner.
Minimum Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree and ten years relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience in a university environment working in an operational role and implementing/overseeing compliance with policy.
- Experience leading and managing internal audits in a university environment.
- Experience working within an enterprise risk management program in a university environment.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Experience and skill to drive strategic initiatives to enhance Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) programs, processes, and products.
- Demonstrates ability to further strengthen the governance, framework, and principles for effectively managing risks across the entity.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral communications and leadership skills.
- Advanced knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Generally Accepting Auditing Standards.
- Demonstrates ability to establish operational objectives and work plans and delegate to team members.
- Demonstrates excellent judgment and sound decision making to obtain viable solutions.
- Demonstrates ability to implement strategic policy recommendations and to think critically.
- Influence and strong interpersonal skills required.
- Demonstrates ability to manage a budget.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Public Accountant certification preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience engaging collaboratively with business and risk partners to understand pain points, identify improvement opportunities, and strengthen enterprise risk identification and assessment tools.
- Experience driving consistent risk identification and assessment practices across an organization.
- Ability to work collaboratively and cultivate trust and respect from Stanford colleagues and clients and external organizations.
- Takes responsibility for the quality of work, performing a critical self-review.
- Proactively seeks the advice of supervisors and responds to feedback in a timely manner.
- Working knowledge of COSO Framework, CoBIT and/or other leading business and IT control frameworks.
- Leveraging tools and techniques for research, analysis, and problem solving.
- Non-profit/Higher Education experience is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of Oracle Financials (including application controls, segregation of duties and process workflows).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Hybrid.
- Routine extended working hours during peak cycles; travel to school/unit sites across university.

The expected pay range for this position is $164,000 to $192,000 per annum.
