Performs highly skilled technical work in the inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of traction power substations and overhead catenary system, and wayside and onboard signal systems for all UTA rail systems.
Minimum Qualifications

Possesses current Journeyist card as an: Electrician, Lineman, Railroad Signalman, or a Master Electrician card.

Placement on the eligibility list, having passed the Rail Maintenance Qualification exam – Line & Signal Technician.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  1. Associate’s degree in Electricity or a related field preferred.
  2. The position requires extensive knowledge of both AC and DC electrical high and low voltage control and distribution systems. Familiarity with the maintenance requirements of substation and power distribution system. Knowledge of catenary systems, railroad signaling and wayside signal systems preferred
  3. Must successfully pass mechanical, electrical, and electronic hands-on assessment, which will include the ability to understand plans, schematics, operating and service manuals, in addition to maintenance and repair capability of the physical plant.

EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES

  1. Three years’ experience as a fully qualified electrician with high voltage electric traction and railroad signal experience, or directly related experience.
  2. Ability to perform the duties of the job safely, efficiently and in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations without direct supervision, including the ability to operate required vehicles or equipment.
  3. Knowledge or ability to learn first aid and appropriate safety practices and be able to demonstrate same.
  4. Able to acquire and maintain DOT medical Card.
  5. Have a valid Utah Driver’s License.
  6. Be able to acquire and maintain Class A CDL within 60 days of hire.
  7. Be a safe driver with no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years.
  8. Have no violations of driving under the influence of alcohol, any drug, or the combined influence of any alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.
  9. Ability to perform physical requirements of the job to include walking long distances in a quick manner on uneven surfaces, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs regularly and over 51 lbs occasionally on uneven surfaces, prolonged periods of standing, crawl and lay on uneven surfaces, able to work in tight and awkward positions, work outside in all weather conditions, able to safely and comfortably work at heights, and constantly aware of surroundings.

Shift: 3:00 pm to 1:30 am with Sunday/Monday/Tuesday off *
*Shift and days off subject to change

Pay Rate: $31.57 – $34.36 per hour plus $1.00 to $1.50 shift differential depending on shift, if applicable. This is a one year wage progression.
