Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction

SUMMARY

The Assistant Principal (AP) of Curriculum and Instruction is a critical component of the Baboquivari Secondary Campus leadership team. This position represents the school and district during all interactions in a positive and constructive way while focused upon student engagement and achievement. The AP oversees all aspects associated with curriculum and instruction, including data-driven instruction, data analysis, formative assessments, district and state assessments, best instructional strategies, and AVID school-wide. The AP also oversees the counseling department to ensure that every student is placed in an educational environment that encourages academic growth.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum and Instruction or related field. Arizona Administrative Certificate with Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement. Three years of teaching experience. Must hold current Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as an assistant principal or dean of students
  • Demonstrated background or experience in school leadership including supervision/management and/or teamwork
  • Experience using technology as an instructional tool and technology applications
  • Experience or knowledge of 21st Century Learning
  • Experience in public speaking
  • Educational experience in a diverse setting

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED.

  • Serve as the administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal
  • Evaluate the development, implementation, and revision of the curriculum based upon the College and Career Readiness standards and ensure they are aligned with and focused on district and state standards.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and articulation of instruction strategies, assessment strategies, and curriculum in each area of instruction to provide guidance for improvement where necessary.
  • Evaluate state and district level assessments to guide and influence curriculum development and modification.
  • Provide guidance in the implementation of state and district level mandates pertaining to curriculum and assessment.
  • Provide and develop appropriate professional development activities for instructional practices and data analysis.
  • Oversee all district and state assessments and communicate the data to teachers.
  • Oversee the counseling department to ensure that every student is placed in an educational environment that encourages academic growth.
  • Respond quickly and professionally to the needs and concerns of parents, students, faculty, and community.
  • Participate in the placement of students online learning, dual enrollment opportunities, intervention and enrichment placement.
  • Create collaborative efforts that include the principal, counselors, teachers, parents, and students to develop solutions that meet the learning needs of all students.
  • Partner with school councils/leaders creates vision, values and goals.
  • Provide general supervision to students.
  • Create a welcoming climate and culture.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff assigned by the building principal.
  • Assist with coordinating the development of the master teaching schedule.

MENTAL TASKS

Communicates. Comprehends. Develops, plans and evaluates school programs and curriculum. Collaborates with staff to coordinate school events. Determines student disciplinary action. Reading. Performs functions from written and oral instructions and from observing and listening to others. Utilizes problem-solving techniques.

PHYSICAL TASKS

Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is required only to supplement normal sedentary work. Assistance is available in the event heavy physical exertion is required. Work may involve occasional lifting and carrying weights up to 25 pounds. Moderate walking, stooping, bending, reaching and sitting for extended periods may be required as a normal part of the job. Employees may be required to obtain a driver’s license in some instances. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability will be required of public contact positions.

EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS

Utilizes standard office and educational tech equipment as needed to increase effectiveness.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors. Office and classroom environment. Outdoor. Campus environment. Contact with employees, students, parents, and the public. Exposure to all weather conditions/temperatures, noise.

CONTROL, SUPERVISION

Supervision of school staff. Supervision of students during the school day and during extra-curricular

activities.
