If you are energetic, responsible, and detail-oriented, join the team at the Cary Senior Center as a Program Assistant II to help administer the Senior Trips program!

This position coordinates the administrative functions of the Senior Trips program, playing an essential role in building the capacity of the Cary Senior Center to offer safe, enjoyable, and rewarding experiences for participants. As a Program Assistant II, you will manage details such as maintaining a database of trip participants, ordering supplies, making transportation reservations, marketing trips, and communicating trip information to participants.

The Cary Senior Center serves all ages and abilities, but also many different cultures, ethnicities, and nationalities. We seek people who are comfortable with, sensitive to, and interested in working with people from all walks of life.

This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.

This position will be responsible for oversight of occasional evening trips, which can run as late as 8:00 p.m. The ideal candidate will be flexible in working both weekday and evening hours.
Typical Tasks

  • Supports the administration of the Senior Trips program;
  • Processes citizen inquiries and provides information regarding upcoming trips;
  • Monitors participant status and notifies patrons of cancelations, changes or updates;
  • Creates and maintains a participant database;
  • Manages participant information/records;
  • Orders supplies;
  • Makes and confirms travel reservations;
  • Accompanies large group trips;
  • Updates website and assists with marketing of trips;
  • Enforces Cary policies and procedures;
  • Completes First Aid/CPR training;
  • Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires strong organizational skills; general knowledge of computers and related software, including Microsoft 365; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline; skill in the operation of common office equipment; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire knowledge of Town of Cary policies, procedures, and the services of the department; ability to work independently; ability to interact with the public tactfully and constructively; ability to drive a mini passenger bus.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Requires education or experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.

Requires some general clerical and public contact experience.

Prefers some experience coordinating group travel.

Physical RequirementsThis position will require the ability to lift or move heavy objects, such as supplies or equipment.

Conditions of EmploymentRequires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.

Requires possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
