Description
JOB SUMMARY:
An RBT in the Helping Hand School will engage, instruct, and play with students to work on day-to-day living and academic skills, implement ABA interventions, collect data on their progress and behavior management and be a trusted member of the student’s school team. The RBT reports to the supervising BCBA in accordance with stated policies and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with students in the classroom one on one or in groups as assigned by the teacher and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
- Implement behavior and teaching strategies as outlined in the student’s IEP and behavior plan as assigned by the IDT team.
- Participate as a member of the individual’s interdisciplinary/educational team and attend all team meetings and training as required.
- Collect data regarding students’ behaviors through direct observation and communicate data professionally and efficiently to the student’s team and caregivers.
- Assist BCBAs as directed with behavior reduction assessments and behavior plans.
- Communicate behavioral intervention results with student teams and caregivers in both verbal and written form.
- Assist with providing formal and informal training to classroom teams and families regarding ABA strategies as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Provides for safety and security of individuals along with Helping Hand property.
Qualifications
STANDARD JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Vision within functional limits in order to see and respond to emergency situations and respond to written correspondence.
- Hearing within functional limits, in order to hear and respond to students/parents/staff and auditory requests for assistance.
- Phonetically articulate verbal communication skills (English).
- Able to read printed materials (English).
- Ambulatory and able to bend; stoop; walk; run; reach; go up/down stairs easily; sit and play on floor; move, react, and stand quickly; and able to lift 50 lbs.
- Computer skills in the use of word processing, internet, and electronic mail software.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Self-motivated and takes initiative.
- Occasional movement of students by wheelchair or other mechanical devices.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Fulfill the agency training requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- RBT Certified with the BACB or the ability to become RBT certified within 60 days of hire.
- Licensed through ISBE as a Paraprofessional or Substitute Teacher.
- Experience working with children, and a passion for working with children with special needs.
- Maintain yearly RBT re-certification and abide by the RBT Ethics Code.
