POSITION SUMMARY:
This is an Advanced JAVA Developer position in the Business Systems Engineering Bureau within Information Technology Services. This is a full-time position that serves as a software programming analyst/developer for the development and maintenance of information systems (design, review, programming, testing, documentation, and installation). We support criminal justice agencies and the public across the state, country and international community. This position requires the ability to work in a collaborative environment, do research, collect requirements, and create cutting age software. The position also requires excellent facilitation and customer service skills.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
- Designs, develops and implements specialized programs/routines to supplement and enhance system software;
- Software will be written using the FDLE approved development tools and languages in a manner consistent with the style of existing programs;
- Provides support of system software through diagnosis of problems and implementation of changes to resolve problems and maintain software at the most current level;
- All software will be tested thoroughly to ensure all new functions work as designed and all existing functions continue to work appropriately;
- All changes will be documented within the software itself (where possible) and in external documentation to ensure all enhancements can be made in the future;
- Proper implementation procedures will be followed 100% of the time;
- Works closely with the customers to learn their needs, and accurately translate them to text or diagrams, as appropriate; and
- Provide assistance to other members in the performance of these tasks.
To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming; or
2. A bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and one year of experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming; or
3. A high school diploma or its equivalent and six years of experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming; or
4. Any combination of education or experience, as described above, for a total of six years.
5. Completion of a 720-classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or community college in an area of data processing* can substitute for one year of the required education or experience.
6. Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing* can substitute for one year of the required experience.
Note: 30 semester hours, or equivalent, of course work from an accredited college or university is equivalent to one year of experience.
• Data entry excluded in data processing experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of computer programming, systems analysis and design principles and practices;
- Knowledge of information technology trends and tools for testing and quality assurance;
- Ability to perform application development using JAVA and SQL Server/Oracle;
- Ability to process information logically;
- Ability to identify and define user task needs;
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations;
- Ability to communicate effectively; and
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

BACKGROUND:
FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants.
