Starting Salary:
Automotive Technician I: $17.87 to 22.78 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Automotive Technician II: $18.94 to 24.14 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Plus $.30 per hour for each ASE certificate (up to six).
Plus $.30 per hour tool allowance.
Plus $.90 per hour when working the second shift (2 pm to 10:30 pm).

Nature of Work:

NATURE OF WORK:

Performs skilled mechanical work primarily on light-duty equipment with GVWR less than 26,000 lbs. GVWR. Equipment repaired and maintained includes pickups, sedans, motorcycles, lawn mowers, golf carts, specialized field equipment, trailers and fire rescue units. This position is responsible for diagnosing mechanical troubles to determine appropriate maintenance work; repair and overhaul heavy alternative, gasoline, and diesel powered equipment and hydraulic components. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.

Minimum Requirements
Automotive Technician I : High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic, or accreditation from a vocational institute required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required. A combination of at least two (2) certifications from either ASE and/or EVT in related field is required. Valid Florida Class “E” Driver’s License required.

Automotive Technician II: High School diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required. A combination of at least four (4) certifications from either ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) and/or EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) in related field is required. Valid Florida Class “E” Driver’s License required.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.

  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master’s degree; or
