Job Duties
This position provides laboratory support in the Medical Department at a major correctional center and primarily performs various lab tests, such as blood counts, sodium and potassium analysis, serum chemistries, urinalysis, and a number of other procedures
Performs control-value testing on equipment, updates charts and records, schedules appointments, and maintains documentation in appropriate logs and files
Provides orientation to medical staff and inmates, and maintains adequate and appropriate lab supplies
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of microbiology and laboratory science
Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of record keeping
Skilled in recording and reporting test results
Demonstrated ability to operate standard laboratory equipment
Demonstrated skill and proficiency in the use of computers and related hardware, applications, and software to include the Internet and Microsoft Office or similar office productivity software, and automated databases
Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors, patients, vendors, and other
Additional Considerations
Experience working in a VADOC correctional medical setting
Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment
