The School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy (SEMTE) within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Director Business Services to provide conceptual and process leadership at the unit level around personnel and financial planning, reporting and analysis, and community building to foster a collaborative staff enterprise in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Working Environment
- Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND six (6) years of administrative experience, which includes three (3) years supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of progressively responsible administrative experience, which includes four (4) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience and oversight of an HR functional area, such as compensation, recruitment, etc.
- Experience with interpretation and implementation of faculty policies
- Experience in interpretating fiscal policies and procedures
- Experience in using fiscal, and budgeting software such as Workday or Adaptive
- Experience in pulling, reviewing and comprehending financial reports
- Experience in preparing, monitoring and forecasting budgets
- Demonstrated knowledge of strategic and financial planning/modeling principles, methods and practices
- Experience with establishing goals and long range strategic planning
- Relevant work experience with financial analysis, strategic planning, and trend analysis preferably in higher education
- Experience in coordinating activities and establishing priorities
- Demonstrated knowledge of supervision practices and techniques
- Demonstrated knowledge of management principles and practices

Essential Duties
Personnel and Human Resources
Leads SEMTE’s administration of personnel policies and processes.
- Oversees and directs the administrative and Human Resource functions through various staff for SEMTE to include compensation and job functions analysis, recruiting (external and internal), hiring and training, visa coordination and compliance/audits.
- Prepares or coordinates the preparation of personnel and administrative reports. Analyzes and interprets statistics and employment data for leadership.
- Responsible for ensuring that salary planning and merit exercises balance to personnel budgets.
- Works collaboratively with leadership, unit leads and business staff to develop human resource strategy with metrics tied to that strategy in order to most effectively plan for and utilize resources.
Administrative
Provide leadership and oversight of SEMTE’s central administrative operations
- Oversees the development of processes that support SEMTE’s strategic vision and priorities
- Analyzes administrative, personnel, academic and operational functions
- Serves in an advisory role to various faculty, program, center and staff leadership to provide advice on school and program initiatives
- Develops, implements and maintains SEMTE’s administrative policies and procedures.
- Compile statistics and metrics on a periodic or ad-hoc basis in response to surveys, accreditations, expenditures, enrollments, etc.
- Oversees personnel services budget, expenditures and revenues.
Budget and Fiscal Management
Provide fiscal leadership and management of a multi-million dollar budget that includes large variety of funding sources.
- Conceptualize and lead the development of business planning processes for existing and new SEMTE initiatives
- Directs the strategic planning, developing, reporting and administering of SEMTE budgets.
- Prepares analysis that tracks budget trends, including revenue and cost analysis, and budget forecasts.
- Works collaboratively with leadership, unit leads and business staff to develop a financial strategy with metrics tied to that strategy.
- Analyze revenue trends to support maximum flexibility of funds to fulfill SEMTE’s commitments and develop forecasting assumptions and rigorous defensible interpretation.
- Analyzes and interprets financial and management planning data in conjunction with assumptions for predicting resource needs, and verifies the results.
- Oversight of financial forecast development, including mid and long-range budget planning models, and conducts what-if scenario analyses to support administrative decision-making.
