Overview
In consultation with the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager will assist with the managing, supervising, and coordination of the day-to-day operations of the Wintrust Arena & Arie Crown Theater including but not limited to maintenance, set-up/changeovers, custodial/housekeeping, equipment safety and capital projects.
This role will pay a salary of $70,000 to $100,000.

McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America., With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world’s largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.
Responsibilities
- Assist Director of Operations in the overall day to day operations and maintenance of the venue.
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for all event changeovers; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign daily work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures;
- Assist with selecting, training, motivating and evaluating staff (including Union); provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies or concerns; implement discipline and assist with termination procedures.
- Coordinate, schedule and review the work plan for overnight conversions. Lead conversions and direct staff to meet promoter and show requirements. Ensure stage placement is accurate and all other event relates items are ready for the concert/event. All event details to be fully completed to ensure a successful event.
- Coordinate and create work schedules and vacation requests for FT & PT Operations staff
- Participate in the development and administration of the Operations budget; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary.
- Coordinate facility arrangements and monitor the work of contractors and suppliers; including any equipment rentals. Report any issues or concerns to Director of Operations immediately.
- Ensure staff are working safely, efficiently and are aware of proper safety guidelines and procedures.
- Meet with operations staff on a regular basis to address any concerns and to ensure open communication and dialogue within the Dept.
- Order supplies and materials for maintenance programs and work orders within budget guidelines; receive and maintain supplies inventory.
- Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records and permits.
- Develop and maintain an accurate record keeping system; including equipment maintenance and inventory logs.
- Must have experience and working knowledge of all ice maintenance equipment, electrical, refrigeration, forklift, and plumbing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or better from an accredited college or university in public assembly facility management, hospitality management, business administration, or a related field preferred but will consider relevant work experience
- 3-5 years’ experience in large venue management and production.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a management position with supervisory and decision-making responsibility.
- Experience with labor workforce and union contracts
- Must be adaptable with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an expert ability to present and communicate new ideas and concepts.
- Extremely organized and detail oriented, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional experience in leading, motivating and developing employees.
- A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first.
- Must be a fierce communicator and cross-organizational collaborator.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- Working knowledge of equipment safety, facility maintenance, and housekeeping
- Knowledge of budget preparation and control
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work event nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
