Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
In service of the University’s mission, Digital and Lifelong Learning works with units to support the development of digital programs and pedagogies, as well as other flexible and/or nontraditional learning experiences. We offer a variety of credit and professional (i.e., non-credit) programs through our unit and also provide support for programs across the University. In support of these programs, we provide strategy, coordination, and services to meet program needs, including but not limited to marketing, recruitment, program/course design and development, conference and event planning and support, and student/participant support. Through our programs and services, Digital and Lifelong Learning extends access to education for participants across the state and beyond and enables campus units to expand, share, and collaborate through support for their own research and educational programs.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
UNC-Chapel Hill Digital and Lifelong Learning’s Relationship Marketing Specialist will produce and amplify written, visual, and multimedia content for prospective and current students/learners in support of several academic programs. They will manage our social media presence and interactions across several platforms, programs, and brands, as well as strategizing, planning, producing, and distributing content to generate and nurture leads for a variety of academic programs.
The Relationship Marketing Specialist will work collaboratively with program teams, communications and marketing teams, multimedia teams, and recruiting teams within DLL and across campus to plan, produce, schedule, and distribute engaging and relevant content for social media, email marketing, and other channels. Ultimately, their work will build, strengthen, and nurture relationships among UNC, DLL, and students/learners.
The Relationship Marketing Specialist will report to the Director of Communications and Marketing in DLL and be a part of the DLL Marketing and Communications team. They will work highly collaboratively with all communications, marketing, and recruiting staff.
This position is often required to make real-time decisions about how best to represent DLL and the University in online conversations. It implements DLL’s social media strategy and researches, plans, creates, edits, organizes and posts digital content (such as videos, photos, graphics, gifs, memes, etc.) that effectively tell our story. It is also responsible for responding to learners and other stakeholders as they engage with us online and potentially via other channels.
Work may include: Photography, Written stories/content, Basic videography, Graphic design, Editing, Scheduling/content calendar, Posting, and Collaborating with other team members to create content and ensure steady/regular content posting across projects.
Key responsibilities include:
using web-based and mobile digital platforms to engage key constituenciesmanaging online reputation and brand
creating and executing integrated, online marketing and engagement campaigns for social media and other channelshelping expand into new platforms and systems to effectively shape public perceptions and develop a broad community of support
In addition, this role occasionally assists other content developers/managers in DLL with communications and marketing efforts, as necessary.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The individual must be able to work with other content creators to develop and implement integrated communications initiatives. In order to succeed, they need:
Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to meet tight deadlines and respond appropriately to time-sensitive issues.
Strong project management and organizational skills – they must be able to manage multiple projects and prioritize workload.Experience producing graphics and multimedia content, photography, and/or videography.
Experience managing and analyzing social media metrics.Experience managing social media campaigns.
Professional writing experience, including maintaining consistent voice and tone.Professional understanding of WordPress.
*Ability to work in a team environment yet independently produce all content and deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Professional experience using social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest and TikTok. In addition, they should have demonstrated experience in copywriting and editing experience for a brand, an interest in staying current on social media trends, and an ability and eagerness to work with others in DLL and across campus.Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.
Higher education experience.Professional, continuing and/or online education experience (personal or professional).
Experience producing graphics and multimedia content.Enrollment marketing and/or recruiting experience.
