Civil Case Specialist

Summary

This position is in the Civil Division of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, providing development, case management and triage support to the the Court’s Eviction Diversion Program for Landlord and Tenant cases and ensure compliance with applicable Court rules; Court and division policies and processes; and division business processes and standard operating procedures.

Duties

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DUTIES:

  • Determines appropriate case pathways and schedules and tracks cases by case characteristics
  • Initiates contact with court participants to collect pertinent information regarding obstacles and needs to navigate through the court processes; sets expectations regarding next steps and responsibilities; and connects them with legal resources
  • Provides data and statistics concerning litigant outreach, trends, gaps and opportunities for program improvement.
  • Compiles and maintains statistical reports and other pertinent data to help drive evidence-based decisions regarding program needs including but not limited to preparing and sending correspondence, reports, and charts.
  • Reviews documents and cases to ensure compliance with Civil Rules of Procedure, Standard Operating Procedures and business processes including but not limited to financial transactions, eviction process, writs, sealed cases, removals and jury demands
  • Recommends new initiatives and improvements to court programs including the Eviction Diversion Program; Implement best practices, business processes, and standard operating procedures for efficient operations and effective customer service.
  • Communicates changes to court, division, branch, or unit policies and procedures with unit staff and ensures compliance
  • Builds, leads, and participates in team projects to accomplish objectives, new initiatives, programmatic enhancements, and operational improvements
  • Provides administrative, procedural, and technical assistance to employees, judicial staff, and the public
  • Assists with managing the day-to-day unit operations, facilitates staff meetings and serves on committees for Court, division, and branch initiatives in order to meet the tactical objectives and key performance indicator targets derived from the division’s Management Action Plan (MAP) and the Court’s Strategic Plan

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma/GED and a minimum of seven (7) years of clerical, administrative or customer service experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree and at least three (3) years of experience working in a court system or legal environment.

    Sick Leave is used for personal medical needs, care of a family member, or adoption related purposes. Full-time employees earn four(4)hours of sick leave biweekly. This leave can be accrued without limit.
