Job Description:

The Overnight Progressive Care Ward supervisor will be an integral member of the team, providing direction and assistance to technicians, students and clinicians who are present overnight in the hospital. Primary job duties include establishing work priorities for staff, hiring and training new employees, and ensuring patients are provided best nursing care available. This position acts as a working supervisor, providing direct on-the-work-floor oversight while also doing nursing care if needed. Staff in the area provide top quality nursing care and technical clinical support for hospitalized patients in the progressive care ward and isolation within the Small Animal Hospital.

Examples of work include but not limited to:
• Responsible for recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
• Ensure staff meet and maintain minimum standards for technical knowledge and patient care through regular training, assessments, and continuing education
• Serves as a subject-matter expert and resource to Technicians and Assistants regarding daily operations, patient care, and skill development.
• Serves as a mentor to staff by demonstrating positive work habits.
• Establish work priorities; schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage while minimizing downtime and overtime, and maintain an efficient workflow
• Assess current workflows and schedules and determine where staff are needed
• Ensure work is completed in a proper, accurate, professional, and timely manner while providing optimal patient care.
• Develop, implement, and maintain standardized training program for staff
• General nursing skills such as venipuncture, catheter placement, patient restraint, treatments, medication administration, sample collection, and pain assessment
• Abide by appropriate hospital SOPS for infection control when handling patients, providing interventions/treatments and processing/performing diagnostic testing.

Expected Salary:

$26.00 – $30.00/hr (up to $28.00-$39.00 hourly with shift differentials) (salary dependent on credentials and supervisory experience)

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Credentialed veterinary technician
• Supervisory experience
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and terminology.
