MAINTENANCE /CUSTODIAL
SUMMER STUDENT HELPER DESCRIPTION
Timeframe: August 14, 2023 to September 1, 2023 HOURS: 7AM – 3:30PM
The summer program at Watertown Public School provides valuable work experience to youth from the Watertown area, while contributing to the School’s summer staffing needs.
BASIC FUNCTION: Perform custodial services/cleaning/unskilled maintenance of district equipment/ facilities; perform under the close supervision of a skilled trades worker or custodian; assist Director of Public Buildings with supplies/inventories/various record keeping as needed.
RECOMMENDED BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Tools, equipment, methods and materials used in unskilled maintenance in at least one of the trade areas, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting or locksmithing or familiar with custodial products and equipment.
- Basic record-keeping techniques.
- Shop math.
- Health and safety regulations/procedures; including storing equipment/materials/supplies.
- Proper lifting techniques.
ABILITY TO:
- Operate hand tools (e.g. hammer/screwdrivers)
- Maintain routine records related to work performed.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.
- Meet schedules and time lines.
- Observe health and safety regulations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Persons performing service will exert 50 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Must have an adequate range of motion in the upper extremities.
- Work will involve ascending/descending ladders/stairs/scaffolding/ramps and will involve walking or standing for extended periods.
- Perceiving sound, near/far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools, and handle/work with various materials are job aspects.
- Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may be experienced.
- Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Students in good standing entering their senior year or students graduating and earning their High School Diploma this year. Watertown residents or Watertown High School students have priority.
