In his role as the state’s chief elections officer, he is working to ensure that Ohio’s elections are both secure and accessible. And, as the first stop for new businesses in the Buckeye State, he is assisting entrepreneurs as they receive articles of incorporation for a new business.

What You’ll Do:

The Ohio Secretary of State is currently seeking candidates for a Communications & Project Specialist. Under direct supervision of the Director of Business Services, this position:

  1. Plans, executes, and monitors Business Services communications projects.
  2. Drafts and delivers internal and external messaging related to the Business Services Division.
  3. Serves as liaison between the Business Services Division and External Affairs to assist with communications.
  4. Reviews materials, publications, training documents, and website content to ensure accuracy.
  5. Monitors customer service data to recommend and implement changes to improve customer interactions and answer questions even before they are asked.
  6. Regularly reviews and improves language and instructions on the filing forms, online filing system and website to address frequent questions.
  7. Drafts and monitors question and answer content for a chatbot.
  8. Performs special assignments & projects as directed and other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, business, project management or a related field

Experience
Required: Project management experience and/or strong understanding of project management
Preferred: Public Policy or Legislative experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships; work with division and agency employees in person, over the phone and through email
  • Follow SOS policies and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal laws and administrative code as they relate to activities of Business Services
  • Interpret and follow a variety of instructions in written, oral, or picture format
  • Use proper research methods in gathering data; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things
  • Keen attention to detail, accuracy in work and organization skills
  • Handle sensitive and confidential inquiries from senior staff
