Description
The Garner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking an outgoing, energetic, resourceful Events and Marketing Assistant to be responsible for assisting the Events Coordinator in planning, operating, and implementing all Town-wide events including, but not limited to, the Spring Eggstravaganza, Independence Day Celebration, Trick-or-Treat the Trail, Holiday Block Party, and Friday Family Flicks. This supplemental position will also support the Marketing Coordinator with a variety of tasks that support the department including brochures, flyers, website, social media and email newsletters. Work hours are Monday-Friday generally between 8am-5pm with some weekend and evening hours.
Examples of Duties
Typical tasks include but are not limited to:
• Event preparation, set-up, and clean-up
• Keeping an accurate inventory of supplies and inspecting inventory for proper condition
• Enforcing rules and regulations at events
• Coordinating volunteers at events
• Creating marketing materials using a variety of tools including social media posts, reels, flyers, graphics, and email newsletters
• Proof-reading marketing materials
• Updating the department’s website information
• Attending non-Town events to promote the department’s events, programs, and services
• Operate Town vehicles, including a 15-passenger bus
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified applicants must possess the following:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Be at least 18 years old
- CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to receive within 6 months of hiring
- A driver’s license valid in North Carolina
- Excellent customer service experience with good verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with technology and social media tools
- Ability to lift/move 20 lbs alone and 50lbs with assistance
- Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions regularly
- Event planning and coordination experience preferred
- Marketing experience preferred
Additional Information
This supplemental position will be scheduled for up to 20 hours per week.
