Position Overview
The Supervisor – Aquatics Programs supervises, supports, and monitors the operation, care, and maintenance of Bachman Indoor Pool/Aquatic Center or Bahama Beach Waterpark. Oversees aquatic staff at assigned location. The functional activities are somewhat complex and specialized in nature. Includes the supervision of subordinate staff that provide aquatic programs and events to the public, marketing programs and services to the public, providing customer service, ensuring adherence to state and local codes, enforcement of policies and procedures and revenue collection and maintenance of financial records and reports. Work time is sometimes spent performing the type of work supervised.

Essential Job Functions
- Oversees the year round operation and maintenance of Bachman Indoor Pool/Aquatic Center or Bahama Beach Waterpark seasonal operation and maintenance.
- Ensures the implementation and adherence to state and local codes regarding the operation and supervision of aquatic facilities and activities.
- Plans, implements and oversees aquatic programs including organizing and scheduling courses to be offered, developing new programs and conducting aquatics special events and competitions.
- Analyzes facility operations and implements changes to improve efficiency, service and productivity and ensure operational goals are met.
- Plans and conducts employee orientation and training programs on a wide range of topics including policy, procedure, safety, facility maintenance, equipment and computer system operation, food handling and preparation, and cash handling.
- Plans and conducts certification courses such as Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR, as well as ongoing required inservice training sessions to ensure facility staff are code compliant.
- Ensures the adherence to State and Local laws governing public pool operation, following all environmental and CDC guidelines for ensuring a clean and safe swimming environment that protects life safety, and maintain all related and required documentation.
- Identifies marketing opportunities for assigned aquatic facility programs, create marketing materials, attend marketing events and conduct presentations to promote activities.
- Oversees the daily collection of revenue and ensure adherence to cash handling procedures, maintain financial records and generate reports.
- Manages equipment, inventory, fixed assets, retail and food sales, concession operations, and all associated purchasing and payment activities.
- Engages and works with vendors to ensure assigned aquatic facility is stocked with necessary supplies; monitors purchases and ensures all purchasing is in line with the budget.
- Developments and enforces procedures and policies.
- Serves on department-wide task forces or committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support division activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
Three (3) years of experience in the development, organization and operation of a water park, aquatics program or public swimming pool facility. AND one (1) year in a lead/supervisory capacity.
License and Certification
Must have a Texas class C driver’s license.
Must acquire the following certifications within six months of hire:
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification
- First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Water Safety Instructor Certification
- Swim Coaches Certification
- Food Managers Certification
- Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification
Education
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education or related field.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of supervisory practices for aquatics facilities and operations.
- Knowledge of aquatic facility operations including pool mechanical systems and water chemistry, salary budget, encumbrance account, environmental/ health local and state laws, cash handling, purchasing, human resources, and risk management.
- Knowledge of Risk Management procedures, Emergency Action Plan development and safety programs pertaining to aquatic facilities.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and aquatic accident/injury prevention.
- Skill in a Microsoft environment, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Skill in administrative function, database management and record keeping.
- Ability to utilize recreation management software such as RecTrac and Meet Manager.
- Ability to provide exemplary customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- During the summer season work is performed indoors and out, in extreme heat and varying temperatures.
- This position has the risk of exposure to pool chemicals such as chlorine and muriatic acid as well as occasional risk of injury while troubleshooting equipment and mechanical problems with the pool motors, pumps, filters and chemical feeding equipment.
- Although not a primary function this position occasionally will assist with physical activities such as lifting and carrying supplies and equipment and the physical exertion required to assist with troubleshooting equipment problems.
- This position conducts lifeguard training and evaluation requiring swimming abilities and the physical exertion required to perform rescues, drills and lifeguard testing.
- There is occasional risk of harm when responding to emergency situations or providing first aid/CPR.
- Though work is primarily performed during business hours, work may be conducted in the evenings, weekends and on holidays depending upon the season.
