Description
Under direct supervision of the Animal Control Supervisor, the Shelter Attendant cleans and disinfects cages/shelter, feeds and cares for animals.
Assists shelter customers in redeeming or adopting pets
Handles complaints received at the shelter
May work with limited supervision
Qualifications preferred:
Skills in public relations, animal handling and care of animals
Knowledge of animal behavior, species and breed identification, disease recognition, record keeping, and proper use of disinfectants
Ability to operate various equipment including bird dispersal, control and restraint and radio/audio equipment
Ability to handle irate customers, euthanize animals, control aggressive and heavy animals, and manage stress.
Requirements
Must be 18 years of age at time of employment
High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Driver’s License and credible driving record
Up to 28 hours per week is possible with hours preferred being 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. two other days during the week. This position includes working holidays.
