GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs responsible paraprofessional work in assisting the County Attorney with trials, appeals and legal research and procedures; does related work as required.
Work is performed under the regular supervision of the County Attorney, Deputy or Assistant County Attorney. Supervision may be exercised over law clerks.
TYPICAL TASKS:
• Conducts title searches and collects and analyzes data in preparation of tax foreclosures and property acquisitions;
• Prepares and institutes condemnation proceedings, serves defendants and prepares files;
• Prepares and institutes tax foreclosure proceedings;
• Prepares and inserts legal advertisements and notices;
• Prepares cases for litigation;
• Contacts and interviews witnesses in trial preparation;
• Arranges payments of delinquent taxes;
• Prepares legal documents including petitions, motions, orders, subpoenas and accompanying correspondence;
• Facilitates discovery;
• Maintains data base and shared hearing schedules;
• Assists attorneys with case development and trial preparation;
• Maintain forms, standard operating procedures and notebooks;
• Coordinates witnesses and exhibits for court;
• Analyzes medical records;
• Assists with legal research; and
• Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of legal office practices, procedures and techniques
- General knowledge of legal terminology
- Thorough knowledge of departmental functions, organization and policies
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods and practices utilized in legal research
- General knowledge of municipal law

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a community college with a degree in Paralegal Technology and two years experience as a legal secretary or assistant.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Paralegal certification required and must be commissioned as a Notary Public with six months of hire.
