General Description
General Description: Responsible for the research, training, coordination, and implementation of engagement opportunities that help provide families with support to ensure their children are successful in school. This position will work in collaboration with CIS Site Coordinators to support existing and develop new family engagement programming.
Essential Job Functions
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Site Coordinators to plan and implement best-practice family engagement activities across all CIS sites (K-12) that foster partnership to support student learning. This will include some night and weekend events.
- Develop professional training and resources for CIS staff based on evidence and researched-backed curriculum and sources.
- Collaborate with various support service programs and staff to provide comprehensive services to children and families.
- Works closely with the Family Partnership Specialist and Community Engagement Specialist to develop and implement strategies that enhance family and community engagement, fostering effective partnerships and promoting active involvement in programs and initiatives
- Integrate parent and family engagement strategies into all systems and program services to support family well-being and promote children’s learning and development.
- Promote opportunities for families to participate in researched-based curriculum that builds on their knowledge of child development.
- Support Site Coordinators with the collection, preparation, and submission of accurate program information and data; and maintain a reporting system of all program related information.
- Assist Site Coordinators in engaging families in the development of meaningful Individual Family Support Plans and family partnership agreements by identifying family strengths and needs that help support the Dual Capacity Framework.
- Establish and strengthen community and CCPS partnerships that enhance family engagement.
- Research and support grant writing connected to family engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Budgetary Responsibility:
Assist in the preparation of budget request and revision; recommend purchases and expenditures; maintain financial records.
Report Preparation:
Assist in the preparation of regular reports for presentation to the School Board, CIS Board of Directors, and community on issues related to Communities in Schools. Complete all reports required by CIS National and Chesterfield.
Equipment Operation:
Operates personal computer, basic office equipment and equipment related to the area assigned.
Contacts:
Frequent contact with individuals at all organizational levels within and outside the school system.
Work Direction/Supervision:
CIS Administrator and CIS Program Manager.
Decision Making:
Frequent independent decision-making, with support of the CIS Administrator and Program Manager.

Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 25 pounds. Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in an office or school environment. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge of best practices with family engagement within low-income communities. Experience in planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of resources and services. Prior experience working with families and schools with diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, and ability to effectively communicate. Fluency in Spanish is encouraged.

Bachelor’s degree in education, school counseling, social work, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred. Valid VA Driver’s License.
