Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
Under moderate supervision, provides support for the analysis and maintenance of Management & Professional Liability coverage forms, coverage rules, contracts and non-policy forms. Also prepares state rate filings and responds to state insurance department inquiries. Participates in insurance product development-related research projects and analyzes state and countrywide regulatory initiatives.
This job does not manage others.
This job works under moderate supervision.
What Will You Do?
- Basic ability to comprehend and communicate intent of contract wording as well as interpret interrelationships of coverage across forms.
- With direction from others, maintains or revises policy form or non-policy forms, coverages, manual rules, and contract wording.
- Contributes to product, coverage, and form initiatives.
- Understands, adheres to, and over time is able make assessments and improvements to policy and non-policy form workflow processes and controls. Meets or exceeds quality and timeliness goals. Attention to detail.
- Performs accountabilities with basic understanding of the quote, issuance, and publishing systems to facilitate the development of policy and non-policy forms.
- Understands the impact of coverage and form decisions on various constituencies such as agents, business units, and insured customers.
- Presents and seeks input from key stakeholders such as BSI legal and Claims to gain agreement or approvals on forms.
- Serves as a resource for Product Development, Product Management, Business Units, Claims, and Legal staff for assistance regarding policy form coverage and non-policy form information.
- Training: Participates in specialized training in areas such as actuarial and regulatory compliance concepts, underwriting principles, coverage and product, leadership/soft skills, and technical/data analysis skills. Applies increasing knowledge to assignments.
- State rate filings: Basic understanding of regulatory & compliance issues as well as Department of Insurance filing processes.
Creates filing documentation and assists with responses to Departments of Insurance. Prepares multiple states rate filings for Department of Insurance, at various stages of completion, focusing on product form, and regulatory issues.
Executes changes to forms to comply with state laws and regulations.
Consults with actuarial partners on trends analysis.
Makes recommendations to team based on analysis of regulatory trends.
Researches and analyzes questions/issues raised by Department of Insurance during filings. Presents recommendations to team on response to Department of Insurance.
Provides relevant data to internal product processing, and regulatory/legal team in response to DOI inquiries
- Ad-hoc Requests:
Completes analyses with high level of accuracy. May include cross-market and cross-state projects, and competitive intelligence projects.
With direction, develops communication, documentation, training, and marketing materials to communicate coverage or non-policy forms information to internal and external customers.
Presents findings of analysis to management on a periodic basis.
Other duties as assigned.
No state assignment; focuses on assignments within states.
Participates in specialized training in areas such as actuarial/rate concepts, underwriting principles, regulatory compliance, leadership/soft skills, and technical/data analysis skills.
Completes analyses and develops and presents recommendations with increasing independence.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
Bachelor’s degree in business management, management information, finance, or other analytics related field preferred.
Working knowledge of Management and Professional Liability Insurance products and systems.
Technical Knowledge/Critical Thinking: Able to extract and analyze competitive data.
Customer-focused orientation (internal TRV customers)
Team Orientation: Able to interact with others on a team.
Planning and Project Management: Ability to handle shifting priorities.
Strong time management skills.
Ability to self-direct; strong sense of urgency in meeting deadlines.
Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communications.
Knowledge: Understands basic actuarial concepts such as loss development and trending.
Working understanding of competitive analysis tools.
Working understanding of basic ratemaking and its application, such as profitability, risk loads, etc.
Understands and is able to access available sources of Travelers and Industry trend information.
Working understanding of and good working relationship with claim, business units, and information technology. Developing understanding of the workflow and terminology of these areas and their impact on B&SI.
Solid knowledge of Excel, Access, and Word.
What is a Must Have?
- Bachelors degree required.
- Minimum of 6 months of work experience.
- General Knowledge of Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint).
