Description
Cary’s Outdoor Recreation team is seeking organized and enthusiastic individuals to assist with the management of the Bond Park Challenge Course, an outdoor learning facility that offers engaging experiences that focus on teamwork and team development. We have low ropes, high ropes, and stand-alone high elements. We offer leadership development, team building, private parties, and public adventure programs. This position will play an integral role in the daily operation of the Bond Park Challenge Course, including office administration, program supervision, facility management, and program facilitation.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Typical Tasks
- Assists with course and equipment maintenance and performs routine inspections to ensure safety;
- Manages group reservations and builds relationships with participants, group leaders, organizations, and community members;
- Clearly communicates operating procedures and guidelines to all staff to ensure operations are conducted in accordance with safety standards;
- Provides on-site supervision for challenge course programs, camps and adventure days;
- Oversees implementation of risk management practices and Emergency Action Plan;
- Works with appropriate staff to ensure program facilities are safe, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive;
- Trains staff, or oversees training of staff, on all day-to-day operations and rescues;
- Renders first aid in case of minor injury;
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of challenge course programs and operation; general knowledge of equipment and supplies required for challenge course operation; general knowledge of computers and related software; good organizational skills; skills in the operation of common office equipment; skills in teamwork; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry our oral and written instructions; ability to exercise judgment in controlling the activities, behavior, and safety of program participants; ability to supervise other staff.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a four-year degree in experiential education, outdoor recreation, or adventure education.
Prefers two or more years of experience in facilitation at an experiential challenge course program.
Prefers experience supervising a facility and managing a team of staff.
