The Sr. Director / Broadcast & ACC Network reports to the Asst. AD / Broadcast & ACC Network. Position serves as the Lead Producer and also assist in the day to day execution of ACC Network/ESPN initiatives for Virginia Tech Athletics as part of the broadcast arm of HokieVision. Through the ACC Network, HokieVision will implement content strategy that tells the stories of the Hokies with a commitment to bringing fans the best broadcast experience consistent with the branding and standards of the ACC Network/ESPN. Additionally, this position will assist with training and developing other fulltime staff and student production assistants in proper network broadcast techniques and will work to develop positive relationships with other Hokievision, ACC Network, ESPN, and Virginia Tech Athletics staffs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field with experience, OR a master’s degree.
Experience producing ESPN events at both a linear and digital level.
Experience managing fulltime staff members and wage/student employees.
Ability to work outside of typical business hours as needed, potentially including but not limited to evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to work in a collaborative team setting, while also being self-motivated and organized.
Exemplary work ethic, attention to detail, and positive attitude.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
Working knowledge of broadcast equipment and network broadcasting.
Good knowledge of sports.
Ability to manage, mentor, and train student interns and freelance workers.
Commitment to diversity.
Knowledge of NCAA Rules.
Knowledge of technology and industry trends.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive knowledge and experience producing live sports television consistent with ESPN standards and branding.
Experience training students in graphics production consistent with the branding guidelines of ESPN.
Working knowledge and experience working within a broadcast crew in various roles (technical directing, graphics, replay operation, camera operation, audio, etc).
Experience with ESPN broadcast elements (graphics packages, animation and tape elements).
Strong storytelling skills.
Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite.
Ability to shoot highlights and flexibility to travel to cover athletic contests.
