General Definition and Conditions of work:
Performs responsible semi-skilled work assisting in preparing and serving institutional meals, washing dishes, cleaning cafeteria, and related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Child Nutrition Manager.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
- Prepare and serve meal items and/or supplemental sale items.
- Back up prep during serving times.
- Operate equipment such as chopper, slicer, mixer, ovens, steamer, dish machine and other food preparation and mechanical equipment, including computers.
- Practices good sanitation rules and knows regulations when performing work duties in accordance with these rules.
- Assists with stock and inventory as needed.
- Washes pots/pans
- Keeps work area clean.
- Assists with trash emptying, sweeps, mops and performs other cleaning duties as assigned.
- Participates in required professional development.
- Performs related tasks as assigned by the manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing and serving food on a large scale.
- General knowledge of the use and care of food preparation equipment, including dish machine.
- Some knowledge of USDA rules and regulations for school meals, food and nutrition.
- Ability to perceive size and serve standard portions.
- Ability to read and understand simple recipes.
- Willingness and skills to work effectively as a team member, and to maintain good relationships with co-workers, students, teachers and principals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED. Experience in the foodservice industry is preferred.
