General Statement of the Job & Essential Functions
Under general supervision, assists with the operation and maintenance of parks and other outdoor facilities including shelter care, event support and landscape maintenance and facility cleanliness. Reports to the Park Attendant II.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintains cleanliness throughout the park by cleaning and preparing shelters for reservations, dumping trash receptacles, picking up litter throughout the park to include shelters, playgrounds, pavilion area, Friendship Gardens, and the display room. Ensures that the train has sufficient gasoline to operate.

Greets customers at the shelter upon their arrival and ensures the proper customer is the person who reserved the shelter. Puts out signs for rentals.

Monitors cleanliness of bathrooms and cleans if needed in the absence of designated custodial staff.

Reports all safety hazards to appropriate supervisor; ensures participants do not abuse or misuse facilities; ensures equipment and supplies are returned upon completion of activities; and assists with the maintenance and upkeep of shelters.

Assist with emergency response to weather events, performing snow removal activities and operating chain saws and other small equipment in support of hurricane debris cleanup.

Prepares and submits required monthly reports.

Performs other duties as assigned. Individual assignments will be determined by supervisor based on current workload and department needs.

Knowledge of Job:Has some knowledge of the principles and practices used to instruct customers in part operations. Has some knowledge of the proper safety precautions for recreational facilities. Is skilled in the use of a variety of recreational equipment. Is able to communicate effective with the public. Is able to understand and interpret oral and written instructions. Is able to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.

Safety and Housekeeping: Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by the city and various regulatory agencies. Sees that the standards are not violated. Maintains a clean and orderly workplace.
Education, Experience & Special Requirements
A high school diploma, General Educational Development (GED) certificate, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the equivalent knowledge and skill to meet the requirements of this position.

An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and sex offender registry check.

Individuals in this position cannot be listed as having a founded child abuse or neglect complaint.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or city-wide emergencies
Physical Demands
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to use and demonstrate the use of a variety of recreational equipment and to demonstrate considerable movement and flexibility in the implementation of program activities. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are for Medium Work.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments and directions from supervisor.

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using a variety of recreation equipment.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, such as recreation equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress (emergency situations).
