Deepcell, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior IP Paralegal to help organize and manage our growing patent and trademark portfolios and internal IP activities. This is an exciting opportunity for someone that is interested in being part of a team to build and shape IP practices that will scale with company growth. In this newly created role, the successful candidate will report to the Chief Legal Officer, based out of our headquarters in Menlo Park, CA.
Responsibilities
- Help maintain Deepcell’s global patent and trademark portfolios, including coordinating with outside counsel to ensure that the docket is up-to-date and accurate; analyzing and communicating docket deadlines; monitoring annuity payments; and preparing docket and portfolio reports.
- Interact with scientists and engineers and help coordinate IP-evaluation activities.
- Receive and timely docket patent and trademark related correspondences and Invention Disclosures into in-house docketing system.
- Prepare and file patent related forms and documents (e.g., U.S. and PCT patent applications, Office Actions, Information Disclosure Statements (IDS), sequence listings, formality documents) with the USPTO (e.g., via EFS-Web); retrieve document (e.g., File Wrappers, non-patent literature documents, certified copies); and perform audit of IDS.
- Prepare and maintain other legal documents.

Qualifications
- A paralegal certificate, preferably from an ABA-approved program.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 7+ years of patent filing and prosecution experience in a law firm or corporate setting.
- A combination of law firm and corporate experience is strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience with U.S. and foreign patent docketing. Prior experience and working knowledge with patent docketing software required.
- Experience in patent filing and prosecution practices with USPTO, PCT, EPO, and other major jurisdictions.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills.
- High level of proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Acrobat, and online storage / file-sharing / document management.
- Well-versed in addressing legal-related administrative issues, tracking status of patent & trademark applications, and executing formal documents to meet their deadlines.
- Being comfortable working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative team environment that is growing and evolving and able to adapt when priorities shift.
- A notary public preferred, or willing to become one shortly after starting.
$120,000 – $150,000 a year
The estimated salary range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
