Overview
The Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for booking conventions, corporate and private events through an aggressive marketing and sales program, working with clients on rates, contract terms and conveying this information to all departments. The candidate will be able to execute all aspects of the sales and marketing process, promote to potential clients, establish working relationships, represent at tradeshows, initiate sales calls, and ensure booking information is maintained. This person will have the vision to create and implement marketing campaigns to help sell the Convention Center and the destination to meeting planners and show organizers. Additionally, this person will be integral in planning and executing marketing campaigns for Arena shows and events as well as effectively collaborate with the Convention & Visitor Bureau and area partners to sell Bangor and the region as a must visit destination.
This role will pay a salary of $55,000 to $65,000.

Responsibilities
- Oversee the Marketing Manager, Sales Manager and Group Sales Manager at the Cross Insurance Center
- Represent the Cross Insurance Center as its primary sales representative locally, regionally, and nationally corporate and private events
- Research, identify, and establish the appropriateness of groups for the Convention Center through cold calling and solicitations
- Assist in developing and implementing the sales/marketing activities including developing budget submissions and follow-through systems and procedures
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Convention & Visitors Bureau, area hotels, staff, service providers, and facility users
- Respond in a timely manner to inquiries by prospective and confirmed facility users regarding rental rates and space availability of the Convention Center
- Conduct facility tours and make formal presentations to convention and exhibition managers and other facility users regarding facility booking policies, rental rates, services, and optional policies
- Prepare written facility use proposals and cost estimates for potential facility users: reevaluate potential business value of various events and facility users; initiate booking discussions; finalize all booking arrangements
- Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
- Create awareness and actively sell and solicit all goods and services through attendance at trade shows and other industry functions
- Develop solid marketing campaigns and sales blitzes to promote the Convention Center and region
- Create and maintain relationships with local media partners and promoters
- Develop and implement cash/trade proposals/campaigns with media partners, including digital, radio, print, TV and outdoor, etc.
- Create and implement grassroots initiatives for events and sales initiatives at the Cross Insurance Center
- Develop and execute social media campaigns, email marketing, and promotions to drive sales, engage guests, promote convention center efforts and other venue initiatives
- Update and maintain the venue’s website; serve as a liaison for all website related issues, updates, and analytic reporting
- Analyze marketing efforts and adjust efforts based on learnings, trends and activity
- Assist Convention Center clients with marketing initiatives to increase event exposure and attendance
- Maintain thorough knowledge of competitor’s products and pricing
- Travel as required by General Manager
- Meet specified goals and objectives for facility usage
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-7 years of responsible sales and/or marketing event experience in an entertainment venue, convention center, conference center or other similar facilities
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experiences
- Proficiency with data processing and MS Office applications
- Experience with CRM programs and Adobe Design applications
- Ability to work nights, all events, weekends, events, and holidays as required
