Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Rehabilitation Workshop Instructor I for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to perform training and directing individuals in a workshop operation setting. Instructs individuals in proper work attitudes, habits and work-related social skills. Instructs individuals on how to resolve conflicts and minimize negative behaviors and how to develop competencies needed for employment in a variety of occupations such as a craft artist or horticulture worker and food service.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs training with and supervises individuals in workshop operations settings at the Shapiro Center.
- Instructs individuals involved in day training programs in work-related social behavior and work-related self-help skills.
- Monitors work performance to ensure that quality standards and delivery of services are met.
- Maintains and operates equipment, including but not limited to, ballers, paper shredders and paper laminations.
- Records and reports daily training data for individual attendance and production.
- Attends and actively participates in training.
- Assists in selecting and obtaining supplies for the vocational/educational program and assists in maintaining inventory.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
- Requires one (1) year experience in a rehabilitation workshop or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of professional experience in a rehabilitation workshop in a private or public organization.
- One (1) year of professional experience instructing individuals in proper work attitudes, habits, and work-related social skills.
- One (1) year of professional experience monitoring work performance to ensure that quality standards and delivery of services are met.
- One (1) year of professional experience documenting information in records.
- One (1) year of professional experience teaching elementary workshop tasks to clients.
- One (1) year of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
- Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
