Position Summary
Perform a variety of tasks in support of Parks and Recreation/Open Space facility operations including development and delivery of educational programs and conducting tours; coordination and accounting for reservations and fees; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to visitor service.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, education, recreation, or park management; and

Three (3) years of outdoor education/recreation or informal teaching experience.

Experience in outdoor science education or informal classroom teaching preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a valid first aid certificate.
Possession of a valid C.P.R. certificate.
May be required to work weekends/odd days off.
Preferred Knowledge

  • Methods and techniques of lesson plan development and instruction
  • Methods and techniques of informal education
  • Basic operations and services of a Parks and Open Space program
  • Modern Office procedures, methods and computer equipment
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping
  • Basic mathematical principles
  • English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Recreational activities, rules and regulations
  • Natural and cultural history of Parks and Open Space areas
  • Basic cash handling procedures

  • Coordinate and direct educational programs for the Open Space Visitor Center
  • Recommend and implement goals and objectives for providing educational services.
  • Interpret Parks and Open Space rules and regulations
  • Lead and assist in interpretive tours; public speaking ability
  • Learn the natural and cultural history of Parks and Open Space areas
  • Understand visitor service principals
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
  • Learn basic cash handling procedures
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Assist in selection, training, direction, and supervision of assigned personnel and volunteers
  • Assist in coordinating the work of lower level staff and volunteers
  • Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
  • Prepare clear and concise reports
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
