Azure is one of the largest cloud providers on the planet. Microsoft owns and operates datacenters all over the world in support of Azure. The Datacenter Manager team owns the health, management, and availability of every piece of hardware in every datacenter that makes up the Azure cloud. Every server, every power supply, everything – it is all touched by, managed by, and owned by the Datacenter Manager team.
As a Software Engineer on our team, you will develop services and features for efficient configuration, management and monitoring of datacenter hardware. You’ll be working with a mix of greenfield and existing .NET services, globally distributed, working on projects that cross team and organization boundaries. You will expand your knowledge of distributed systems, how datacenters work, and how hyperscale clouds are built and run. Our team is hybrid with several members fully remote, across 5 different locations, but also with team members in office, if that works better for you.

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/ Additional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience building distributed systems.
Software Engineering IC3 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 – $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 – $198,600 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.

Responsibilities:
- Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.
Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight. - Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
- Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
- With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.
- Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.
- Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.
- Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
