OVERVIEW:
Stanford Digital Education (or the Office of the Vice Provost for Digital Education) is on a mission to reimagine how higher education can serve the public good, and we are recruiting a new team member to join us in that mission.
We develop Stanford’s online and hybrid education strategies and strengthen its capacity to carry them out. By uniting Stanford’s human and technological capabilities in novel ways we are building a more just, equitable and accessible system of education.
The Associate Director (AD), reporting to the Director of Project Strategy and Operations, will join our project management team. The AD will work closely with faculty, staff and outside Stanford partners to drive projects from conception through execution and evaluation. ADs work on multiple projects of different scale and scope at any one time. This position will have a part-time focus on instructional design and course development and support, while also heading up projects with a more broad focus on digital education.
A successful AD will be comfortable with ambiguity. They will work collaboratively and efficiently, and be motivated by a fast-paced and evolving work environment. They should have a background in instructional design and in education, preferably with digital programs. They will need to work closely with faculty and connect with diverse audiences, putting customer-service and problem solving at the core of the work.
CORE JOB DUTIES:
- Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Lead projects requiring functional integration. Complete sub-project and/or stand-alone elements (or a contained project such as construction project). Direct development of an action plan, and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete the project.
- Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation consensus within scope of responsibility.
- Develop and help execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and collaborators on a focused project; actively manage resistance to change.
- Assess target audience business needs to determine learning and performance support needs. Proactively advise subject matter experts to identify and formulate learning objectives and content.
- Develop learning plans and as needed change management and communication plans. Ensure appropriateness, effectiveness and success of learning programs. 10%
- Design and develop course content, instructor and participant materials, including performance support materials. Draft storyboards and prototypes. Design learning and performance support solutions. Implement, evaluate and maintain learning solutions.
- May identify strategy for production, post production, and delivery resources, tools and equipment necessary for the development of learning materials.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience. Experience in management of projects of moderate size/complexity with limited performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting, or combination of education and proven experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Polished written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to efficiently engage and influence cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
- Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem solving skills in a variety of situations.
- Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Frequently sit, perform desk based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand, twist/bend/stoop/squat and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
- Rarely use a telephone, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.

LOCATION & COMPENSATION:
We are open to candidates who would like to work on our campus, hybrid work arrangements or fully remote work arrangements from anywhere in the United States.
Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate. The expected pay range for this position is $94,000.00 to $138,000.00 per annum.

INTERVIEW PROCESS:
Following a successful screening interview, candidates will meet with team leadership via zoom. All interview questions will be provided in advance. Following interviews, candidates continuing on in the process will be asked to respond to a short design challenge to be presented to the Digital Education team.
