Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general supervision of the Director of Programming, the Director plans and implements programs and activities for active adults 60 & Over who attend the senior club, and adults 60 and over who have either cognitive or physical disabilities that require Social Adult Services (SAD) and Respite. Supervision and direction of staff and volunteers is essential to carrying out this oversight. Director is responsible for the direction of the centers daily operations, nutritional services, coordination of transportation and for planning, organizing and implementing new and innovative programs and activities based on the changing needs of the older adults in the centers service area. Also responsible for publicizing, recruiting and assessing participants for planning and implementing appropriate activities for the Social Adult Day Program. The Director will:

Palmetto Senior Club Duties:

  • Oversee the operation, growth and development of the Center Programs;
  • Responsible for all aspects of the program operation including program development, staff supervision, budget oversight, and compliance with agency and funding source requirements;
  • Provide effective leadership, motivation, and direction to program staff to enable the agency to provide professional, comprehensive services;
  • Hire, train and professionally manage top quality program staff and ensure that staff meet funding source requirements in regards to qualifications and ongoing training;
  • Maintain professional standards in all aspects of work, including direct service, tracking and follow-up, professional development, documentation, and supervision;
  • Effectively carry out all recreational programs, activities, services and special events;
  • Plan and supervise staff and consultants in carrying out health promotion and educational/recreational activities that are appropriate and meet the various interests and needs of the center population;
  • Coordinate with Roundtable staff in planning menus in accordance with funding source guidelines and menus that meet the needs of the program participants;
  • Ensure that staff involved in food preparation handle food in a safe and sanitary manner;
  • Plan and implement outreach efforts that ensure that isolated or underserved populations are identified and that services are consistent with community needs;
  • Manage revenue and expenses within approved budget;
  • Ensure the preparation of all funding source requirements for recordkeeping and reporting including coordinating with RiseBoro fiscal department in preparing vouchers;
  • Exhibit strong and calm leadership skills for directing staff and coordinating with other organizations to handle crisis situations and implement plans for disaster preparedness;
  • Attend community meetings and prepare board reports as required by the agency;
  • Meet regularly with the Senior Advisory Committee and other committees as necessary;
  • Other duties as required by the supervisor.

Respite Program Duties:

  • Develop new and innovative programs, activities and services to meet the ever-changing needs of the seniors and their caregivers;
  • Hire, train and professionally manage top quality program staff and ensure that staff meet funding source requirements in regards to qualifications and ongoing training;
  • Coordinate transportation services with RiseBoro Transportation Coordinator;
  • Collaborate with outside organizations to boost involvement and understanding of senior needs;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with case managers, care giving programs and community partners including local health and social service organizations;
  • Ensure that coordination of referrals, reassessments and care plans meet funding source approval for all Social Adult Day and Respite clients;
  • Plan and supervise staff and consultants in carrying out recreational and cognitive activities appropriate for SAD clients;
  • Ensure that all staff receive training to meet the functional and cognitive needs of clients as required by the funding source and as client needs warrant;
  • Responsible for directing the Respite/ SAD Program Coordinator in development of staff scheduling;
  • Provide for emergency back-up for all Respite services 24 hours per day;
  • Provide case assistance and information/referrals for family care givers;
  • Develop supportive programming for family caregivers in dealing with issues that arise when caring for frail elderly clients;
  • Represent the agency on the NYSOFA Caregiver Coalition and DFTA SADS Programs Directors meetings;
  • Other duties as required by the supervisor.

  • Experience in Social Adult Day, Caregiver Services or work with frail elderly or seniors with dementia a plus and knowledge of or coordination with Managed Long-Term Care Programs helpful
  • Knowledgeable about cultural competency to adapt services to a changing senior population preferred
  • Strong human and public relations skills; interest and ability to work with senior citizens and volunteers
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Commitment to organizations mission, vision, and values
  • Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities
  • Have a commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.)

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

  • MSW with at least 1 year of experience in implementing and running programs and/or groups with clients as well as experience in program or service development. (Experience as an Intern is acceptable.); or
  • Bachelors degree in human services with at least 2 years of experience; or
  • Associates degree with 3 years of experience; or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5 years of experience in supervising or programming activities for senior citizens or related populations in a non-profit or government setting.
