Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; three years of experience in office practices and procedures, direct customer service and/or a call center; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Call center experience and bilingual skills preferred. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office; ability to communicate with individuals of varied educational and socioeconomic backgrounds; ability to organize, plan, and prioritize daily tasks to ensure deadlines are met; ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions, ability to perform clerical functions in a fast-paced environment with a minimum number of errors; ability to read, interpret and explain program requirements. Considerable skills in communication both orally and in writing. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Duties
The Senior Human Services Assistant will:

  • Serve as a member of the leadership team and senior worker group by providing supervisory coverage, support and guidance to team members, assisting with the facilitation of team meetings and work collaboratively with the supervisor to advance the goals of the agency and team
  • Provide leadership to program-related initiatives and monthly data collection reports
  • Provide data collection, analysis and monthly/weekly reports, monitoring customer calls and walk-in customer activity
  • Support Human Service Assistant and Administrative staff in performing the following tasks:
    1. Assisting telephone customers with basic benefit program inquiries
    2. Collect and distribute incoming benefit related documents
    3. Issuing EBT cards to customers
    4. Greeting and assisting walk-in customers with inquiries
    5. Onboarding new employees, providing and/or coordinating ongoing training for existing staff
  • Senior Human Services Assistants perform other duties as specified throughout the Department to include: administrative support, records management, operations/IST and application registration
  • Perform other work as required.

Shift
Monday – Friday; 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Social Services employees are required to provide emergency shelter coverage during times of natural disasters.
