JOB SUMMARY AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
JOB SUMMARY
This position performs responsible professional work in the operation of the golf pro-shop and promoting the game of golf; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Golf Course Assistant General Manager. Some supervision is exercised over golf shop and service personnel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
- Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Vocal Communication: Required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing: Required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Visual Acuity: Required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and extreme heat.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Registers golfers and assists with managing tournaments and promotional events.
- Collects, receipts, and accounts for green fees, cart charges, and other sales.
- Inspects and oversees operation of the golf carts, ensures golf carts are properly charged, and reports cart damage.
- Oversees and participates in the operation of the pro-shop and clubhouse.
- Monitors the deleted and voided transaction report daily.
- Monitors the sales in the point of sale system with the credit card terminals to check for accuracy and to identify any issues needing resolution.
- Assists in promoting the game of golf.
- Assists patrons with information about the facilities, equipment, rules, and etiquette.
- Establishes and assigns starting times.
- Maintains records and prepares reports.
- Oversees the general maintenance of the pro-shop and clubhouse.
- Maintains security of golf course property and buildings.
- Assists with or conducts performance evaluations.
- Assist with the administration of applicable staff via recordkeeping, work schedules, and timekeeping according to City policy.
- Assist in the inventory control of hard goods, soft goods, and special orders including: ordering procedures, receiving procedures, inputting into point of sale, pricing procedures, display, and sales.
- Performs related tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by completion of a professional golf apprenticeship program and some golf shop experience.
Special Qualifications:
Certificate of completion of School I or School II or P.G.A. School Program is desirable. Must obtain PGA membership through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGA PGM) program within a prescribed timeframe.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the rules, etiquette, equipment, and game of golf.
- Knowledge of the practices, methods, and policies used in municipal golf course operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.
- Skilled at teaching and playing golf.
- Ability to supervise concession and pro-shop activities and to account for revenues.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to report to work as scheduled or notify supervisor personally by telephone in advance if unable to report to work.
- Ability to report to work on time and to perform the duties of the position for an entire workday.
- Ability to perform overtime, holiday, and weekend work as needed.
