Your Opportunity
This role is about making an impact on people’s lives and the future of clean energy. You will leverage your skills and experience to be part of an innovative team and make a difference for our customers. As an Industrial Engineering Intern in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Fuel Business Unit. Your work will include:
- Perform a sintering study at the Framatome Richland site by using a test furnace and compare results to the standard production furnaces. The final deliverable will be a report presenting results and recommendations
- Sintering Study
- Find comparable sintering conditions between batch and production furnaces. Describe the sintering cycle (cycle time, temperature, atmosphere, dew point, etc.)
- Reproduce sintering of production. Provide recommendation of sintering cycle, type of boat/curcible for sintering UO2, Gd, Cr pellets in batch in test furnace. Sintering of a full production boat of “green” pellets in test furnace, check pellet characteristics/comparison with production results. Sintering of smaller quantities of green pellets inside production furnaces. Check pellet characteristics/comparison with test furnace.
- Comparison of sintering furnaces. Describe Richland furnaces for the different production lines. Compare with Framatome affiliate and support writing of report comparing sintering furnaces across the Fuels group. Support sinter furnace modelling
- Powder studies
- Perform blend studies
- Impact of ADU on pellets characteristics;
- Impact of crushing on powders and pellets characteristics
- Perform powder sampling and characterizations

Richland is located in the Columbia River basin in southeastern Washington a few hours east of Seattle. After work, the Richland, Kennewick, Pasco Tri-cities area offers a variety of water sports and fabulous fishing. A short drive puts you in the beautiful Cascade Mountains. Your Total Rewards Package
The range of base salary for the position is between $20 – $25 per hour, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
