General Description / Primary Purpose
The Assistant Director Project Management Office, under the direction of a Director or above, plays an integral role in the design, development, implementation and interpretation of departmental processes and/or programs.
Essential Duties
Job Function
Under the direction of the Director of the Project Management Office, the Assistant Director Project Management Office will lead, supervise and manage a team responsible for monitoring and controlling projects with a significant IT component, including all planning, reporting, quality control, etc. Assist in the design and implementation strategies and objectives to ensure departmental goals are met. Develop and/or supervise the implementation of PMO programs, projects and procedures. Serve in ad advisory capacity, providing coaching and consultation to the PMO staff. Design and deliver presentations, workshops and educational/training materials. Train and supervise work staff, students and volunteers as assigned. May represent the Director in his/her absence. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Define project objectives and scope including goals, outcomes, success measures, etc.
Monitor and control projects with significant IT components, including all planning, reporting, quality control, etc.
Assure that projects are implemented correctly, on time and within budget.
Assure that proper documentation is developed and maintained for projects.
Collaborate and maintain regular communication with ITS Leadership and functional project owners.
Provide recommendations to the Director of Project Management Office on PMO best practices.
Provide Project Management knowledge and critical and analytical advice to the PMO team and Project Managers within ITS.
Develop and/or supervise the implementation of PMO programs, projects and procedures.
Manage PMO Project Managers of all levels – supervising work assignments, assessing staff training needs, approving time and leave requests and writing employee evaluations for direct reports.

Leads department meetings as needed. Keeps current in job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. Performs other related duties as assigned by higher level management. Attends meetings of Information Technology services staff; utilizes staff resources when situations require additional expertise. Serves on committees, task forces and work groups that pertain to Project and Portfolio Management.

A Master’s degree from an in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; or a Bachelor’s degree from an in a directly related area of specialization and four years of experience directly related to the job functions.
