Department Summary

The Advancement Strategies and Technology Innovation (ASTI) department is focused on finding the solutions for foundational issues that will best position University Advancement (Advancement) to achieve its goals around engagement and fundraising. The department has a unique function in that it is based in Advancement. It also has a strong working partnership and provides strategic direction to the University of Oregon Foundation (UOF) and UO Information Services staff.

Prospect Development is responsible for the implementation of the prospect management system and for the identification of prospects, strategic prospect review and providing intelligence for the purpose of aiding development officers in optimizing portfolios and fundraising to their highest capacity. This department’s work is critical to the future success of fundraising at the University of Oregon and the Advancement initiative to identify the next generation of philanthropic leaders. Prospect Development collaborates with each development team and the department as a whole to promote a systematic and quantifiable framework through which development staff manages relationships, and analyzes and identifies prospects and related strategies.
Position Summary

The Associate Director of Prospect Development (associate director) provides strategic guidance on identifying the next generation of University of Oregon (UO) philanthropic supporters, manages and implements activities related to prospect information gathering and analysis, and oversees projects and efforts related to strategic prospect review and portfolio management.

This position is responsible for developing innovative approaches to prospecting, creating opportunities for fellow development staff to prospect, and ensuring high levels of quality, and is always accessing industry-wide best practices and technology to improve efforts. The associate director works to improve and maintain the prospect management system, reports, policies, and procedures to aid development officers to fundraise to their highest capacity, promote a systematic and quantifiable framework through which development staff manages relationships with donors, and provide strategic evaluation and measurements of fundraising progress.

They provide direct supervision of the Prospect Research Analysts and Prospect Management Analysts in support of these efforts.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
• Three years supervisory experience and/or work group coordination.
• Three years of experience in development, advancement services, or a related field.

• Demonstrated strong communication skills, including a strong sense of customer service.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage stressful situations with tact and diplomacy, handle sensitive and/or confidential information and work effectively with senior leadership, administrators, and other internal and external audiences.
• Excellent computer skills using relational databases and Microsoft Office applications or equivalent software.
• Ability to manage projects within a complex organization while maintaining attention to detail and accountability, adhering to firm schedules, and solving problems as they arise.
• Knowledge of applied marketing research, sales, and/or marketing analysis, social science research, and/or similar fields.
• Intellectual curiosity and an ability to conduct high-level research and analysis.
• Ability to mentor and train others; willingness to share skills and techniques with peers and colleagues.
• Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
• An understanding of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) Body of Knowledge Domains and associated competencies.
• Familiarity with complex data analytics for development.
• Experience with Ellucian Advance or similar CRM databases.
• Demonstrated ability to manage programs or projects and develop strategies to achieve operating goals.
